Has anyone with an Excursion or Excursion Diesel purchase an extented warranty from Ford (or non Ford for that matter). Any comments about it, do you think it is worth it? What term did you purchase? Do any cover loaner vehicles while in service? Have you used it any problems? I drive about 25K a year with my PS 6.0 2003 Excursion and was thinking the warranty might be the way to go for five years. I know the engine has a 100,000 mile warranty already, but though about covering the rest of the vehicle.

I did...
the ford 5 yr 100K warranty...
it does provide loaners up to $30 per day IIRC (won't get u back in an Ex, but u get transportation)
had it on my '02 Ex as well and did use it... not a problem with the ford warranty at the ford dealer.

some will say not worth it... it's a matter of prefernce for me... about $2K on top my $40K+ purchase was not much for the piece of mind it gives me...
It's just an insurance policy, albeit expensive one, maybe State Farm will give you a quote

but I would recomend a ford one if you're getting one... third parties have been known to go out of business...

I maxed out my Ford extended warranty, as I tend to do a lot of driving and have been stung in the past with warranties just expiring. In Canada, Ford seems a bit more picky than General Motors when it comes to rentals. With my Avalanche, if it is in overnight, they get me a rental, no questions asked, sometimes getting me another Avalanche, if possible. With Ford, the dealership I bought it from is pretty reluctant, but won't say no. (Their hours just suck.) Another one, whose service department is open until midnight, will only provide a rental if the vehicle is undrivable when they close, so I get it. (This sucks because I have to then book another appointment to finish the work.) I finally found a smaller dealership who just gives me one of their Focuses to drive around while repair work is underway, and I am going to give them a go on Monday. Rental issues aside, I'd say the warranty is worth it.

I think the Ford extended warranty is a waste of money. The engine comes with a 100k warranty stock. The Ford techs know nothing about diesels. The dealer in my opinion is the worst place to get quality repairs done.

I'm with Gregg.

I asked once to see how much it would cost to extend the 36K bumper to bumper on the f250 diesel. The Ford dealership said $1,200 for 12,000 miles. If two policies were bought that would cover a transmittion change, I'd take the risk.

When I bought a 99 F150 the salesman asked if I wanted to extend the warranty. He said "now you know if the power window stops working it will cost $500 to fix?" I said NO of course and the drive side power window didn't happen to go out on my next truck (F250 in sig). Guess what? $85 for part at Ford and 30 minutes to install!!! Ford wanted $150 just to look at the window motor.

BUT, an extended warranty did help me big time on a 2002 Polaris 700 Twin I bought a few years back. $599 for five years of full warranty with no deductable. Last time I looked I had $2,500 in repairs!

I purchased the extended warranty as well...I'm now at 106,000 miles. I can't remember a time where it actually saved me a ton of money as most of my "warranty claims" were minor things that the $100 deductible made be breakeven on. When my transmission died, it would have been covered under warranty, but Ford said that since a chip was installed, it was void. Less learned: remove any aftermarket stuff before going in for major warranty work. They will try everything to get out of a warranty claim!

It's just insurance...piece of mind. I would do it again for sure. These things can get very expensive should something major go wrong with the ball joints, 4x4, etc. If you run oversized tires (even on stock rims), they will blame that on ball joint wear, too. Beware!

If you call Ford diderct you can get it a hell of a lot cheaper that that.Geico ins. also offers a ext. warr. policy for thier customers. To me the $1200 was a piece of mind on a 48,000 vehicle.

I tend to agree.. anything beyond the basic factory waranty is a waste of money.
And the $100.00 deductable after the basic waranty period does not help either.

And don't forget theres a long list of things extended waranty does not cover Including Brakes.

I said it 22 years ago and I say it today, Extended waranty HA!!! BULL CRAP !!!
