I know it's still winter, and in fact they are calling for even MORE snow and ice in Raleigh tomorrow but as Spring and Summer approach, I'm just wondering if the A/C system in the X is efficient and effective? I purchased the vehicle in December - and it's black so I'm hoping that come Summer I won't regret getting the large, dark vehicle - it get's DAMN hot here and I LOVE MY A/C!

Any thoughts or comments??

Thx.

I can't say for the PSD but I imagine they would both be the same....engine shouldn't have a beraing on it.

I had a 2000 V-10 that was black as well. In Florida 105 degree 99% humidity she was just fine. Never had a problem.

In Idaho 120 degree 10% humidity there weren't any problems either.

What I did notice though are the differences in how easily it cools down....by that I mean in a dry environment it took longer for the air coming out of the vents to get colder than it did in a humid environment. BUT, once the air was cold it cooled the interior quicker than in a humid environment.

Hope that helps!

Thanks ! That certainly makes me feel better. It is miserable in NC in July, August and September and I like a nice cool truck.

Any other observations?

Is that true that there should be no difference in the effectiveness of the A/C system as it relates to either the V10 or the PSD?

Thx!

Actually there was a re-flash somehwere in theire for the 6.0L diesel that addressed the low speed a/c operation and it did help !

But I'll tell you my black Ex cooled FINE last summer...
EVEN when the side would be SO hot you'd see heat waves coming off and dared not touch it !
not sure we get the humidity in DFW that you get there...
but I'll bet we get the more of those DEGREES here

*******************************
I did like the remote start so I could get the A/C's going before I got in ... Really helped...

The only re-traiining I'll need to do this summer is to remember to reach up and turn on the rear air BEFORE I leave the vehicle so the remote start will crank up both of them....

check out the pics in tmy gallery to see my black ex...

The A/C in the PSD X will not be ice cold at idle which makes for sometimes annoying rush-hour commutes. However, if you are cruising along at anything more than idle, it stays nice and cool on the inside.

Have had my 2000 BLACK X since '00. Love it in the summer and winter! I enjoy the rear overhead vents because that means more A/C pointed towards ME. Just wish it had the air conditioned seats like the Navigator.

A/C weather seems so far away. I'm happy not to have the heater cranked all the way up nowadays.

Thanks for the posts guys! I really hadn't thought of the remote start simply because the winters are generally mild here (as I speak it's snowing and we're expected to get about 8 inches or more, though)

But the remote starter does sound good because my X will sit in (pretty much) full afternoon sun in the Summer here at work.

I think I need to look into this.

It is annoying to have the A/C go luke warm at idle though. I had a piece of crap Chevy pickup with a 6.5 TD a few summers ago and the A/C was terrible at idle. I hope the X isn't too bad or I'll be ticked off again.

Any of you tech experts have a good reason for this phenomina? Is it the new 'enviorment friendly' freons??? Argh. Any fix for this???

Thx.

OH, also I forgot to mention that I guess it's OK on the ole PSD to let the right foot settle on the gas pedal in a traffic jam and 'idle it up' to about 1100 or so to cool off the A/C. That was a trick I used on the Chevy 6.5 TD...worked great...that is...when the damn 6.5 TD was actually running - which was rare.

My black X didnt have a problem cooling at idle... but again, I got the flash for the better a/c operation at idle... not sure WHAT it did... all I know is that it did it

While the Excursion does not have the coldest air conditioning unit that I have experienced, it is more than adequate in our summers, which occasionally reach 110F. One thing I have noticed - and this goes for warming the truck in the winter - is to make sure you turn on the rear climate control, too. It makes things comfortable a lot faster than if you just have the front climate control turned on. Just my two cents.

Yeah JohnBoy, most of the jams we get around here are bad enough to immediately put the vehicle in park, and move right on past neutral! Ha!

So tell me more about this "FLASH" you got to make it cool better at idle. Who/Where/How/How much, etc.

Thx!
