Just went browsing the forums and had to sign up. Lots of information here. I just bought a 2000, PSD, Limited, 4x4 Excursion with 35,000 miles. It's in fantastic condition, but I have a couple of questions.

First - The steering wheel is crooked. The vehicle tracks down the road beautifully, but the wheel is rotated about 20 degrees counterclockwise. I'm sure there's nothing wrong, but I'd love to get it straight.....It will eventually drive me mad...How do I get this fixed?

Second - I've given it the twice over and it looks fine, but when I bought it from Car-Max they explained that this vehicle once had a chip and Ford voided the warranty. The chip is gone now. I guess this just makes me question why Car-Max would know about the warranty anyway. They didn't know about the chip when the vehicle was traded, as it had been removed. I'm pretty sure, short of draining the fluids and filling the crankcase with sand, that the engine will run forever. I just wanted someone else's thoughts. The only thing I've noticed funny about this is that the engine will ocassionally surge when under medium throttle apps. Not consistent, and never under WOT, but it still concerns me.

Any thoughts, suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Michael

Welcome !

MY experience is that the wheel was taken off and put back on "twisted" - just lean to the side and it will do two thngs:
strengthen your back muscles and make the wheel look straight !
but the wheel can be pulled and rotated with a wheel puller tool...

WOW - no warranty cuz of a chip ?!?!
hope u got a great deal to have to give up that 100k engine warranty !!!

If Ford voided the warranty, then the vehicle is red-flagged in their system. Car-Max would know about it if they bought the vehicle because they would have run a check on the VIN number to see if there was any warranties associated with it. I had my warranty voided due to a chip as well...fortunately I was at 87,000 miles at the time and it didn't really matter a whole lot other than Ford did not replace a dead transmission.

I have 108,000 miles on my '00 PSD X without major engine problems. I doubt you will have problems but I hope you paid a reduced price for your X considering it came void of any warranty.

Welcome,

Your warranty is dead in 7.5 months if you still had it anyway. 5 years or 100k miles on the motor.

As long as you keep up maintenance on that 7.3, it will run till 350k miles or more without a flaw.

If you dont have these items, get them,

Gauges for trans temp, boost, and EGT. Exhaust and for sure

Get a programmer/chip, its the best mod evar.

I have a 2000, 7.3 X and its like new at 66k miles.

And, the only other hitch with my X is balancing/rotating the tires. I run 35x12.50 BFG ATs,

They move on the rim from torque or something, basically every 3k miles i have discount tire rotate and rebalance them for free. Everytime i notice a vibration it goes right back to discount tire and gets the treatment again. Works like a charm.

And, one more thing GET the ceramix brake pads from NAPA, you will thank yourself later.

You can either take it in to an alignment shop or loosen the cuff on your drag-link and turn it until the steering wheel is straight. That's the way it works on my Jeel, anyhow. I have a 2WD X so I have no real reference.
