Hey, thought I would quit lurking and let everyone Know I am here. Just got a 2000 Excursion for a super deal. $9600 for 4x4 xlt with the 5.4 L at 105k miles. It was a fleet vehicle to haul mentaly handicapped kids around Wyoming. Big state, almost all highway miles. Been realy pleased with it so far. I have replaced the shocks and added an antisway bar. Only thing I am a little nervous about is how long this engine is going to last. I don't tow so the smaller gas engine is ok for my family (6) but wonder how it compares for longeivity to the larger v10 in a vehicle this big. Any thoughts? So far no oil use or any thing wrong that I can tell. In any case, thanks for all the good posts as it has been useful for the repairs I have done ( 3 door lock actuators ). |

Drew,
Welcome to the community and congrats on the purchase! That is definitely a great deal.
To address your concern about the engine...I wouldn't be too worried about it. I would however be concerned about the transmission at this point if it has not been rebuilt yet. How's the power? Seem good for 105k on tne motor?

The V10 is only the V8 with 2 more cylinders. Basically the same engine. They share many of the same parts. Longevity shouold be the same with proper care and maintenance.
Take Eric's advice and start caring for your tranny! I'd make sure it has fresh fluid.

What kinda milage you seeing with the 5.4? I used to have an Expedition with the 5.4. 10-12 around town, 13 highway (72mph), 15 on 2-lane (60mph). You may get another 100 on the motor, they go along time these days. A buddy had the 5.4 in EXPY & his oil pump went while idling (warming up) in driveway. Motor didn't last very long after getting starved for oil. It had 157k
Incredible price for the X.
