Ok. I must apologze for my nitto terra grapplers bashing. I messed up completely! I had taken my excursion out many times and got stuck more times with the aftermarket tires than I did with the stock tires. I was hating life. I recently took the X out to the dunes here in california, and discovered my front end wasnt pulling.
I had my hubs on "auto" locking, and I turned them to lock, and put it in four low, and I walked all over the dunes like it was the 415 in LA. *shakes head* Has anybody else had this problem?
Conclusion: IO have been doing all my serious four wheeling in two wheel drive. PRO: The X is a sweet off road vehicle, for its size. CON: Humiliated by being stuck, and being pulled out by a jeep and a suburban. And as you all know, I have a loathing relaitonship against suburbans. lmao.
Hope this helps you all!
have fun,

Bryant!!! I feel your pain but can't say I've been in your position. Grapplers are great tires. DOn't know what went wrong. Call Nitto and discuss issues. Get your money back.
I did have to help out a HUMMER out of a ditch a couple of weeks ago. The Dip felt like doin' some 4WD in a construction site down the street and hit a soft spot and got stuck. I backed up the "Tractor" (MY X) and put her in low 4 and vavoom the yellow mass ( or Sponge Bob) was pulled from the hole. Heard Sponge Bob suffered $3K worth of suspension damage. Who said GM is cheap!!!
The X wasn't even breathing hard....

A somewhat common problem with the Auto hubs. They need exercised regularly.
If they don't engage at all, suspect a vacuum problem. If the vacuum pulse performs as designed then the hubs may just needs cleaned up a bit.
Whatever the case, once you get them working, it is a good idea to rotate the selector back and forth every week or so and to use the auto 4WD (to keep it "exercised") prior to going on any off-road "adventure".
Contrary to "internet heresay", the hubs lock the same way no matter the actuation. Meaning: one way (manually) is not stronger than the other (auto).
Of course, you can also say to hell with the Auto hubs and just use the manual lock.
I personally prefer the manual lock. I always had problems getting one of the hubs to UNLOCK when using it just on Auto.

LMAO DON!!! spongebob huh?! Thats good stuff right there. Ive had the privelage of pulling out an H2 at the beach after he aired down. Oh yea, did I mention he had his 25' wells cargo behind him full of toys?! "Do you want me to unhook the trailer?" "Hell no, I GOT A REAL TRUCK!" Yes i know, i am a jerk from hell...
Anyways, I have always prefered manually locking the hubs also. Ive had to do it on all my jeeps, and on my toyota, dont ask why i never did with the X. Oh well. Guess what... taking the X up to the dusy ersheim trail in two weeks. Thats some serious four wheeling right there. I'll take some pics for you guys!
Oh yea, The only time I have ever heard the x breath or grunt was pulling my 31' travel trailer up a winding raod where I had to go slow (where i actually shouldnt have been, but what the hell huh!), and i got down to 30 MPH on a (i wanna say a...) 12% grade?!?! even then the x picked up and walked like it was flying solo. These damned trucks are so strong and well built its not even funny.
I have an uncle who works for the police deparment, and he bought 2 H1's. He wants to have a tug-o-war. I dont him he didnt have a chance. Ah yes, we live for them kodak moments dont we?! Im just waiting for the date and time, and i will be all over it like white on rice!
anyways, have fun gents, its been fun sharing!

Same thing.
No self-respecting Soldier or Marine would EVER refer to his HMMWV as a "Hummer".

LoL. Not to feel bad, I had to have my Bronco pulled out of a snow drift in Aklavic by a suzukie once. But then, thats why
you travel in pairs. Too help each other out.
The factory hubs on the EX suck big time. The water gets in behind the rubber O ring on the plastic knob and corrodes the inside between the rubber vacum seal and the knob. The result is the knob gets stuck and you can't turn it. It also screws up the auto lock. I think I posted one on this subject before in more detail.
