i just got my xcursion about a week ago: 2000 limited w/ v-10, 4x4, 4.30 LS diff

and was wondering if there is an adjustment on the horn to make it sound deeper. It seems pretty weak for a vehicle of this size. The was an adjustment screw on my '67 mustangs that controlled diaphram movement.
Anything similar in this case???
I'd go out and check myself, but it isn't here at the moment.
Thanks for any replies

I don't know about an adjustment on the OEM horn, but I'm tempted to do the same as a buddy did on his F350 dually. He installed an 18-wheeler style set of air horns & tank beneath his passenger compartment. Lots of room down under there, and it's a terrific attention-getter. I also installed one of those cheaper air horn kits (3 horns with an electric pump ... no reserve tank) on my GT40. Works much better than the "meep-meep" horn did.

I have sitting in my garage a stutter horn off of a fire truck. It is the loudest horn available. I used to have it installed on my '93 Chevy Blazer [full size] because when I was pulling a trrailer and people cut me off, the stock horn was just too wimpy. I kept the horn, tank, and compressor when I sold the Blazer. I now want to install it all on or rather under my EX. I have to have some mounting tabs welded to the frame under the front passenger seat. When you honk this horn, people move out of the was and then look for the fire truck. It's a great horn and NO I won't sell it.

You guys and your horns. The only time I ever use mine is when I'm in the X inside the garage and the wife is just coming out of the house to get in. The stock horn is plenty loud inside the garage to startle her and piss her off.

I thought I was the only one that liked to do that to my wife

If the listening level is too loud, please inform the driver, so he can promptly pull over, and let you out.

I removed the Code 3 V-CON siren system and 200W Whelen speaker from my Avalanche when I put it in storage and installed it in my Excursion. It is one of the loudest horn and siren systems available. This one was removed from one of the city's fire trucks when they upgraded. On a side note, installing the speaker was much easier on the Excursion since the grill comes out separately. On the Avalanche, I needed to remove the entire front end to install it. 30 minutes vs. two hours.

Landyot,
Did you even get your air horn installed? If so how did it work out?

Has anyone install an air horn on their X...look for some feedback. I found tons of kit just no real life data....

Hey I am reviving this old thread because I run into too many crazy drivers in Chicago (and have 14 month old twins and an 11 year old daughter) and have had a few close calls with inattentive drivers. I need a better horn. My wife even said she wanted one like the truck drivers!

For example last week here in Chicago there was a woman who was driving and talking on her cell phone to her husband and drove directly THROUGH the railroad crossing bars and the Metra train hit her and killed her. Believe it or not her husband was on the other side of the tracks and was the first one to get to her. How is that for unattentive?

But anyway, I would like to get a louder horn or airhorn. The problem is I can't listen to the options I have seen online. And there are too many.

Does anyone have a suggestion and can you describe the sound I will get? I want something that is a wake up call but won't get me arrested either!

Sorry to take so long to reply. I didn't "subscribe" to this thread. No, I haven't had time to research air horns for my X ... but my buddy's F350 sounds like an 18-wheeler. He used an electric switch in lieu of a lanyard, a high capacity air compressor, and a SCUBA tank for his reservoir ... mounted outboard of the frame rails beneath the driver's seat. BTW, his air horns are mounted under there as well.

Not to lead you astray from this website, but there have been some lengthy discussions about air horns at TheDieselStop.com
