From Ford's site:
The total performance package
The big new Ford Super Duty for 2005 is the total package. What does this mean? Simply, it means that we've pulled out all the stops to bring you the toughest F-250/350 pickups yet. A thick, strong frame. New gas engines to help with your tough jobs and, of course, the proven toughness of Super Duty's Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel engines with TorqShift.TM Enhancements to steering, handling and braking systems. Payload and towing capability worthy of the BFT stamp of approval. Before you buy or lease your next big pickup or fleet of pickups, you need to look first at the 2005 Ford Super Duty. Chances are, you won't need to look at any others.
5.4 SOHC 3V Triton V8
Ford's 5.4L SOHC 3V Triton® V8 delivers the goods, thanks to its all-new 3-valves-per-cylinder architecture (2 intake, 1 exhaust) with variable-cam timing (VCT), plus state-of-the-art electronic engine controls, efficient aluminum heads and durable cast-iron block. The result is the outstanding power and efficiency you can rely on.
6.8L SOHC 3V Triton V10
For pure muscle in a high-cube gas-powered engine, look no further than the new 6.8L SOHC 3V Triton® V10 in a Ford Super Duty pickup. Like its kid brother, the 5.4L Triton® V8, the 6.8L V10 features 3 valves per cylinder (2 intake, 1 exhaust) for power and efficiency. Couple this with an advanced tuned air management system, and you have outstanding load carrying and towing performance.
6.0L 4V Power Stroke Turbo-Diesel V8
The 6.0L 4V Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel combines proven cast-iron construction (block and cylinder heads) with high-tech engineering features such as 4 valves per cylinder and Electronic Variable Response Turbocharger (EVRTTM) for outstanding air flow and power. Cast-iron construction makes the Power Stroke® both a durable and quiet diesel.
5R110W Auto Transmission (gas)
You needn't concern yourself with that heavy load you're carrying or pulling on that hilly terrain you're traversing. That's because the 5R110W 5-speed automatic transmission you chose for your Triton® engine is doing it for you. The automatic Tow/Haul feature of the 5R110W's computer continuously monitors engine sensors and adjusts the powertrain to changing altitude and load conditions. The result is smooth and predictable power.
Torqshift Auto Transmission (diesel)
This transmission is engineered to handle the increased loads of the Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel. It has a torque converter that maximizes low-speed torque capability, and all electro-hydraulic shifts optimized with pure electronic shift control among its numerous features. The selectable Tow/Haul feature continuously monitors engine sensors and adjusts the powertrain to changing altitude and load conditions.
A strong heavy-duty frame
The foundation of a great truck is its frame. And Super Duty, the flagship of Built Ford Tough, takes its seriously. So when Ford engineers set out to build the Next Ford F-Series Super Duty pickups, they went to the big F-550 chassis for inspiration and built the 250/350 pickups with its thicker frame rails.
New suspension system
The new rear leaf system is equipped with a stabilizer bar, jounce bumpers, and staggered shock geometry. The result: the new Super Duty's suspension delivers a surprising level of ride, handling and maneuverability in the heavy-duty class* (over 8,500-lb. GVWR). And Super Duty more than delivers in Payload/GVWR and towing capacity.
New brakes and steering gear
When you're hauling that really tough load, you need brakes that are up to the task of stopping on demand. The 2005 Super Duty is outfitted with new brakes that are up to that task. The result is responsive pedal feel and braking performance at both light and maximum loads, as well as reduced noise. The steering gear is improved too, providing the low-speed assist, controlled feel at cruising speeds and on-demand maneuverability you need. It all adds up to greater comfort and easy of use.

I agree Eric. We all wait and hope the X gets some or all of these improvments.

I like the new grill and headlights on the rig shown on the Ford.com site, wonder if those can be modded to fit a 2000X ?
