Howdy,

I am a newbie to the forum and have read the threads and realize you guys have your ears to ground about the Excursions. I am looking to purchase a Powerstroke X (already have a '95 F-350 with 265,000 miles) but am wondering which year model to buy - should go ahead and buy a '04 model or wait for the '05? Do you guys know if there are any major changes coming in the '05 that warrent waiting until August? Any chance the X would be available in the King Ranch edition in '05?

Also, on my 95 F-350 the plastic hub piece on the wheels that covers the lug nuts would not stay on. Have any of you had that problem? Is it worth just getting a new set of wheels installed instead of the Ford options?

OK - one more question - have any of you gents had a GPS installed? IF so, what brand and where did you put it??

Thanks in advance for all your expert advice...any other bits of info you want to drop on a Newbie would be appreciated!!!!!!

Can't help you with the '05 or hub Q's

I have an old Garmin GPS III I use in conjuction with my laptop and DeLorne Street Atlas software. It works great. If you're looking to buy something a little more all-encompasing, you might consider a Garmin StreetPilot 2610/2620 or 2650. See URL:

First and foremost, welcome to the site!!!

Here is a link to a thread that has an external link to the 2005 Excursion ordering guide complete with the list of changes, exterior/interior options, etc:

At first glance, it doesn't appear that there is anything groundbreaking that'll make waiting until August beneficial, however you may consider waiting until the 05s come out anyway just to take advantage of close-out pricing on remaining '04 inventory.

You should just be able to find a replacement beauty cap at a local junkyard or on eBay. These things should be a dime a dozen (just my gut feeling, no evidence to support that!). Not worth buying new wheels, I just can't imagine that they're hard to find.

Good luck with the research on the X!

The limited logo peeled off of one of my rear wheel hubs and my dealership ordered a replacement cap. Within one week the logo on the other rear wheel hub disappeared. The dealership ordered another replacement cap but before it arrived, the one they already replaced disappeared entirely the drive home from my parents' place so they ordered yet another one. I imagine the cover disappeared due to being poorly installed. Oh well! They have both been fine for the past few weeks now.

Good news... after all the help I have received from this forum, I can finally offer someone else some help! I FINALLY found the scheduled changes for the 2005 Excursion. I dug up a marketing strategy for Ford for the 2005 Excursion. It is so fascinating. I JUST purchased an 2004 Excursion Eddie Bauer a few days ago, and I was debating the same thing (2004 vs. 2005). And, it wasnt worth the wait. Check out this website, you'll love it. Look closely, though-- most of the changes are written small, or in code. Mainly, ALL the dark tan on the inside will be replaced by black charcoal (good decision). The crystalline headlights will go to jewelled. And, the honeycomb grill will go to the "nostril" style. A few other changes here and there. TAKE A LOOK....
