Dumb question; does anyone know what the piece of equipment is that hangs down from what appears to be an exhaust system protection bracket underneath the middle of the truck? It's a roughly X-shaped piece having what appears to be rubber blocks attached and doesn't seem to be connected to anything important, just hanging out waiting to be busted off on a bad road.

If it's directly in the center of the vehicle, I think you're referring to the counter balance that prevents vibrations from occuring.

There should be 2 of them. 1 on crossmember below transfer case & 1 above driveshaft on crossmember. They quell some vibrations. If you remove em, I'll buy em. I have one bent already.

I only see one; its in the center of the vehicle towards the passenger side. Doesn't move around, just bolted to a bracket.
