I thought I'd send a picture of the Jetta to those who might be interested.

So far I haven't missed the space of the X. The Jetta is much easier to park and drive in general, and I've enjoyed running through the gears on the five speed. I would love to have the X and the Jetta, but that just wasn't practical.

I have't checked the mileage yet, but I've got 375 miles on half a tank right now. The tank is 14.5 gallons. I'm enjoying the fuel savings.

Have a great day.

Rick,

COOL. Keep that registry entry updated with pics and details. I'm interested to see what you get for mileage. The wife's car will need replacing at some point and am very interested in the TDI. I was pulled up at the pump the other day and was pissed that a "Volkswagon" was hogged the gas/diesel combo pump so I had to go ALL THE WAY around to the other side of the pump to fill with diesel. When the Volkswagon cruised off, I noticed the sound of a diesel and saw that it was a TDI. Very quiet.

As far as missing the space of the X and getting to drive a "normal sized" car...sounds fun. I am eyeing those new Dodge Magnums (the Hemi-powered station-wagon-looking-thing). 340 HP, rear wheel drive...sounds like a lot of fun, and just a bit of practicality thrown into it with the wagon aspect. If only I wasn't so upside down on this damn Excursion and its loan!!!

Hey, Eric,

thanks for the compliments. I need to put the Jetta in the registry, just haven't got a round to it. As for the mileage, I guesstimate I'm getting about 38-40. I don't baby it, shifting at 3000-3500 rpm and sometimes 4000. If I drove it real gently I'm sure I would be in the middle to upper 40s. I've gone from filling up once a week to every two weeks. I don't miss abusing my debit card every week.

Yes, the TDI is pretty quiet. Nothing like the PSD or Cummins. But then again it isn't built to do the same things. TDIs are designed as light duty, high revving engines and not for pulling. With the windows up it is quieter than Wifey-Poo's New Beetle gas turbo engine.

If you are interested in a more practical vehicle check out the Passat TDI Wagon. Very nice.

Take care.

Rick
