Help!
I changed my ball joints this past week and now this truck is undrivable. I did not go with original equipment because they do not come with grease fittings. So my mechanic suggested after market. Now these things are sooooooooooooo tight I can hardly drive the truck.
There is no return to center with the steering wheel. THis down right scary to drive. My mechanic tells me to just drive, they will loosen up. My thought is get them off. I need some advice. How many miles on these ball joints bewfore i give up the ghost? Am I being un reasinable? Go back to OEM?

Non-OEM will be just fine. An alignment, as suggested above, sounds like a good place to start.

Did you do these yourselves or did your mechanic? Just curious.

I had them done by our local Ford master mech that has started his own business . He drives almost the same truck.
I guess I really need to know how far to drive before I replace this set of ball joints. I have over 100 miles now with very little improvement. I also want to stay with after market greasable joints if i can. Is a 100 miles enough?
I also tow a 31' TT and plan on a trip this July. No way i can tow right now.

Scott something is not right. I had my ball joints replaced a year ago and had no problems with steering. My X was easier to steer and more enjoyable to drive. The ball joints I had installed were high quality aftermarket and greaseable. An alignment is a MUST the new ball joints will change everything. Also try rotating your tires, if the alignment was way out of whack the tires will have a wear pattern in them causing the truck to pull to one side.

good luck,
