Last night I was talking with a buddy of mine who has several F250s. He said that he can idle-up his engines by sitting in park, turning the cruise control on, pressing the accelerator to about 1500 RPMs then engaging the cruise control...

I think his PSDs are 6.0s but that didn't sound right to me, so I tried on my PSD 7.3 in the X...it's an '01 model.

Well it didn't work - the cruise wouldn't engage.

What's up? Can you really do this on a PSD? Now I'm really curious.

Dumb question, probably ..but hell I won't know until I ask!

Thx.

'01 X Limited w/PSD - STOCK all the way..and plan to stay that way. Pockets turned inside out with 4 kids!

Doesn't make much sense unless it was an aftermarket wiring thing. The cruise is based on speed, not RPM, and I don't think it turns on below 30 MPH (or so).

He may have an auxilary idle controller (AIC) installed in those F250s. Check out this thread for a little more in-depth description. Not sure how he got it wired up to the cruise control, though:
