I have a 2002 excursion with 76,00 miles on it and the rear end has suddenly gone out. The extended warrenty company ezcare is refusing to pay because they say that there is not an equipment problem. They say the problem was not enough lubricant. It has never leaked and it was checked for leakages every time the oil was changes. Any suggestions? |

I don't have my owner's manual near me but if there were no leaks and the fluid was changed at proper intervals (I think it's 100,000 miles?), then this is a very premature failure. Definitely equipment failure if the rearend went out at 76,000 miles. What did the ring and pinion look like? Did it actually brake? Was it shaved down and/or melted (hinting towards lack of lubrication)? Any sign of leaks around the rearend cover or pinion?
