I am a new owner of a 2004 PSD EB X (still on first tank of fuel)
I would like to put a plow on it for use on a big driveway and a 20 car parking lot.
What do I need to do to the truck (outside of the obvious addition of the plow)?
any advice is greatly appreciated(sp?)
Thanks.....
FYI... been through several Bronco's, Expy's, and now the big X |

You'll definitely need new front leaf springs. The X's front leaf springs are soft and offer very little travel. As soon as you throw a plow on, you'll be very close or riding on the bump stops.
Hopefully someone else can chime in on the exact codes, but I believe you will need X-code or W-code front leaf springs to provide enough additional lift to support the added weight of the plow...and to provide enough suspension travel so that you can safely drive around with a plow attached.
If going with new front springs, you may need larger blocks in the rear so that your X doesn't look like it's sagging. I'll let the guys who have more expertise with spring swapping chime in here...I'm still riding on stock springs and am really only speaking from what I've read in other topics.
BTW, welcome to the site and congrats on the purchase of such a fine vehicle!!!!

It is my impression that there is also an issue with the air bag impact switch. I think the SuperDuty has a different system. Thats why it wasn't offered as a factory option. (Just what I heard) |

W or X codes will be needed for the snow plow on the front of the X. You will also need a four inch block from a f-350 extra cab short bed. I have a X with a plow in my area with the air bag still attached. I would look inti that some more before jumping into this though. I will ask my buddys down at the Ford dealer Monday.

Thanks for the feedback....
I figured I would need to beef up the front end to handle the plow.....
Didn't think about the air bags though???
I would think I could put a kill switch on them (air bags) for plowing if it is an issue??
The dealer said that ford would not honor an extended warranty if I put the plow on? and ford does not offer the plow package from the factory nor could the dealer install one.
I figured... same chassis as a Super Duty shouldn't be a problem....
I'll make sure to cover that before it snows..... should be safe for a few months....
While I am here, anyone think the high beams are VERY WEAK?? |

Our owners manual said the same for the plow. I think once the springs are replaced you are good to go. I am still waiting to hear from my freind who works at a local dealer.
Good luck
