Has anyone with an 00 had any problems with their batterys being a bit tempermental this year? (diesel)
Mine have the little red and green charge indicators in them and for some reason they never go fully green.
At about minus 16 to 20 deg C, they don't seem to last long in a cold start (10 or 20 revs, and I've actualy had to charge them up again to get the truck started. It starts ok if I leave the frost plug heaters plugged in overnight but then that's not much of a challenge.
I am thinking that the batterys may have been damaged when the truck was sitting on the lot waiting for me to come and rescue it. At that time the indicators were very red and non deep discharge batterys don't like to be left uncharged for long.
Any thoughts?
Dave.

Dave,
Sounds like you need new batteries. Mine are fine in my PSD. The temps in MN this winter have been all over...40's one week -10's the next. I haven't needed to plug in the block heater this year at all -- it's started every time. I always remote start it and let it run for 10-15 minutes before driving it but my drive to work is also enough time for the batteries to get charged again as well.

Well I had another interesting episode of "dont wana start in cold wx" again.
Scratched my head and had a look in the oil spec's.
sure enough, 15w40 bottoms out at around the -13 mark. (duh) SO I'm going to try the 10w30 before I try the 5w30 which goes lower. The manual says 10w30 is prefered down to about the -23C mark so that should do the job. Perhaps the batterys will breath easyer now. |
