Well, this post is probably a mute point as the topic is pretty narrow and frankly, just a matter of opinion but here goes.... I ordered and installed a Lund Stainless Steel bug shield on my X thinking that the stainless would really compliment the chrome grill and bumper. I also had plans of installing a Stainless Brush Guard (also referred to as a Deer Guard in my area). Well, after the install, I'm really disappointed in how it looks . To top it off, the boss (read wife) was saying before I ordered it but, well.......it mysteriously got ordered anyway.

I'm used to the spacing allotted in between the hood and the shield so that the bug shield won't rub and catch debris. It also makes it easier to clean / wax in between but it seems ridiculously large. Also, there are two large vent-like openings where the metal curves back towards the headlights from the grill that detract from the frontal view....I realize that metal has its limitations but after spending more than $100 on this item, I want to go back to my $45 plastic(?) shield that I had on my Expedition.

Has anyone else installed the SS bug shield? It took less than 15 minutes so it was pretty easy.....Oh well, just another thing for the boss to say, "I told you so "

I believe that heroes are those that do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the circumstances.

I agree with your wife...

It is a nice bug shield but it does look kinda like a big zit on the end of one's nose.

There is a Classifieds section here. Maybe a fellow user will like the look of it.

For some reason I think it's the red that makes it not match as well as your plastic one did with your Expy.

Haven't installed one of these on my X but I must agree, after looking at your pictures, it just doesn't look right. Waaaay too big of a gap between the shield and the hood.

I also think it is too far from the hood. The grill is not bad but the gap has to go. I had a tinted plastic one and I removed it cause it was removing the plastic chrome from the grill.

Boy, don't I wish. I like to think I wear the pants in the family but every new vehicle we get, she gets the grabs on it and all I get are the payments. I wonder what would happen if we separated?? Thankfully that will never happen, but makes me just thinking about it.

I have to admit, I do like modifying it / or more correctly, accessorizing (sp?) it. Husky mats, the bug shield, CD player, Sylvania lights and LandYot's radius rods were just the beginning. Now on to Rancho and Helwig.....

Yeah, I think so to. First a call to Lund to see if it's "normal" then out come the metal sheers. On second thought, first I'll see what it looks like with the brush guard on. Hmmmm.... Another purchase in the making

Alas, if I say it out loud enough times, it will come true "I am , I am , I am " (Just have to say it quietly so she don't hear)

I've seen this same guard on a buddy's F350, but his truck is white. May I make a minor suggestion? I think it looks good, and the gap isn't too noticeable. What I think ruins the appearance are those tabs that run down and under the front edge of the hood ... especially when viewing them from head on. May I suggest that you wrap some electrical tape around those tabs in order to hide them a bit? It's only a suggestion. My final answer is the bug guard should remain.

BTW, I bought a clear plastic guard, but I'm waiting for when I get around to buying the Ford sun-visor before I paint it to match my "deep wedgewood blue" X (will paint its back surface & leave the clear to the front).

Not a bad idea....And you're right, the tabs are awful. That's what made me think I installed it wrong. They're too far out. I'll give it a shot before I do something more drastic like !

BTW, thanks for the time the other day. I realized, after I abruptly hung up on you (sorry ) , got the horses back in the pasture and the kids all squared away that my call to you was unneccessary. Had I bothered to think the problem through (without the kids and horses distracting me) I would have figured it out. You labeled it correctly, I just put it together wrong. Thankfully, you helped me see the light. I owe you one

To the rest of you reading this, I bought a set of Landyot's Radius Rods and finally got them installed. I realize this belongs on another thread but I had to let Landyot know all is well. Now I'm just waiting to give the Radius Rods a good workout with the camper (in two weeks). I'll let you and everyone else know then.....
