Hey guys,
I have a 2000 Excursion 4WD with 90,000 miles on it and the shocks appear to be worn out. I am thinking about getting the RS9000X shocks with the remote capability. Is it fairly easy to reach the manual settings or would it be a good idea to get the remote control? Also, I would like to mount the remote hardware in a place that that hides it. Any good locations to mount the hardware? I have considered the Bilstein shocks also and would like a recommendation on which shocks would suit me best. I have a Hybrid camper that I will be pulling a few times a year that weighs around 5000 lbs loaded. I won't be doing any off-roading. This is strictly a family vehicle. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Roger |

Roger,
I had the 9000x's and loved them. I thought i read that the in cab controller is free for a limited time. Not needed though. I would change my settings before hooking up the camper and it took all of 5 minutes for all four. You will have fun and then get annoyed playing with the adjustments. I had the rear on 3 front on 2 i think. Pulling the camper i would put the rears on 8 o 9 and the fronts on 5 or 6. Nice shocks and worth the money
I had the 9000's and now have the Bilsteins. You cant go wrong with either in my mind. If you like adjustablity go with the rancho's. If you like and want a all around good shock with no hassle's...Bilsteins are it.

While the dials are easy to turn, I don't exactly find it convenient to crawl underneath the X to adjust the rears. Also, you have to turn the front wheels either way to access the knobs on the front shocks. I really just set mine once and left them. But this is a city cruiser that doesn't see frequent offroading or towing. I just like know that I can adjust them "just in case." I would go for the in-cab adjuster with Rancho's current promotion (it's free with the purchase of 4 RS9000x shocks). Sounds like a great deal to me.

Ditto what Bired and E have said re the Rancho's...
Great ride... but I guess I'm somewhat the princess and the pea type...
I have my 9000's set on ONE !!! I like a soft ride....
Put them on 9, however, and it will handle ANYTHING !
But the important point is to get SOMETHING....
had no idea how poor the stock shocks were until I swapped them out....
a bud swapped his out at 125 miles !

What is the real difference between the non-Pro and Pro Series? How much more money are we talking about and are they needed for family driving?
Thanks,
Roger |

Both have 9 position adjusters, the Pro-Series are nickel colored (instead of white) and have stainless braided housing leading to a nitrogen filled remote reservoir.
I think the regular series run around 90-95 bucks each and the Pro-Series run about 180.00 each
Honestly, I dont think the Pros are "needed" but they sure look good

birdman did you switch because of the spring change?(needing extra travel)
i ask because i'm a new owner and thinking of doing a spring swap.
and dont want to buy shocks twice?
ps if you would be so kind as to tell me would you stick with your spring setup or do you think there is a better combo ?
thanks

Yes, Welcome Pete!
I changed my shocks due to the spring set up. I love my set up. I think BDS or Donahue have the best springs for our trucks but what i have fell into my lap for free. I am looking into putting in BDS rear 4 in lift springs in the future. The X codes are great with the mini pack. I have no problems with them. $1400 is the average price on a 4-6 inch lift un-installed. I spent about $400 tottal for 5 inches of lift.
