That was at the Costco, Arbrook/Matlock

Could be more, now. That was the last time I filled up. Even 93 was $1.99, though, which is what I have to use in my bike.

I passed by Racetrack at Collins/I-20 and 83 was $1,83 there.

DOH! I failed to mention that's for GASOLINE, not diesel. My X is a gasser.

Diesel $2.25, Regular gas $1.99.

I was driving 80mph on the Xway and getting 16mpg, now I'm going 72mph & getting 18.3 mpg. 8mph isn't that much difference for the gain in mileage. We love the X!

Nobody else is slowing down, must have gotten passed by 600 cars in 300 miles.

Filled up a two days ago for $1.13 in Faribult, MN now $1.19 at the same truck stop.
Last year I racked up 55,000 miles on the F250 and so far this year my wife and I have put 24K miles on the Excursion.
Last year the diesel fuel receipts added up to $7,000!!! That would be almost $600 a month. Luckily I'm self employeed so it's business expense.

My acountant says since I put so many miles on every year I should go mileage since the F250 only gets used for work. 38.5 cents a mile would be a nice write off, plus the truck doesn't get depreciated.

My accountant suggested the same thing to me, but when I ran the numbers it didn't make sense. I calculated the per mile cost of buying, fueling (before the current spike), maintaining, and insuring the X. It came to over 46 cents per mile (based on 50,000 sales price with 0% financing, 36,000 miles per year, over 5 years). Losing 7.5 cents per mile, over the 180,000 mile projected life, left me $13,500.00 in the hole. The lack of depreciation did not offset that loss.

Of course, the numbers for your truck may vary.

Oh, and I'm sorry. Nobody said there was going to be any math today.

If you drove 50,000 miles per year it could work on a $50K truck, but 36,000 miles a year wouldn't.

The good side would be when you were done using it for a work vehicles which could be 10+ years you could sell it and take the money and not have to pay taxes on it.

The down side would be repairs, let's say your tranny died, out of pocket expense no write off there. Let's say you want to put a bunch of money into the truck, wheels, lift, engine mods, ect. you couldn't write them off while useing the mileage deduction.

If you picked up a used diesel truck I could see the advantage over a new diesel truck if your only going to keep it until it's paid off then get rid of it if your writing off mileage.

Correct me if I'm wrong, mileage is going to be 38.5 cents per mile for 2004 no matter if the vehicle is over or under 6K lbs GVW?

I write off the F250 100% for work use and write off the Excursion for 55% business use.
I'm glad my accountant finally talked me into Incorporating, the money I'm saving on SS tax is nice.

I did the math and by taking depreciation on the schedule 179 verses taking mileage with the assumption of 30-35k a year, after five years I am 6500.00 better off. Every tank of gas,oil change, car wash, new tires, etc. is deductable assuming the vehicle is used for business 100 percent of the time. To qualify, I believe it is to be used for business at least 55 percent of the time. I have also heard that the 179 is going to be discontinued.
