Any idea why my parking sensor turns off automatically when I shift into reverse? Book says that it means there's a problem with something, but I have no idea where to look.

Not bein smart azz or anything, but did you check the on/off switch on the dash?? Or check the fuses. Sounds like something simple...Good luck!!

I've noticed with mine that if the sensors are dirty they will sometimes come on as soon as I hit reverse but then shut themselves off. When wiped off they return to normal working order. I was thinking that maybe they are programmed to automatically shut off if they come on constant instead of the normal progression of an approaching object., to help the driver maintain his/her sanity. I may be wrong. Good luck.

When I'm in reverse, it won't let me turn it "on"...the "off" light stays on while in reverse. As soon as I go into Drive it will stay "off", but I can turn it "on". Hopefully it is something simple, I just don't know where to look. Thanks! |

I think there's a way to turn this off by default. I don't have my manual in front of me but I think I remember reading something about disabling the reverse sensing feature. Not sure if you bought the X used or not but the previous owner could have gone through the procedure to disable this feature by default? Just a thought. If you don't have the manual, I can run out to my X and grab mine to see what it says.

Now that you mention it, I think I might remember reading that too. I'll check it out and let you know. Thanks! |

Nope, I don't see anything in the manual about setting it to be off by default. Maybe a fuse...I'll see if there's one just for the reverse sensing. |

My reverse sensor was out when I bought the vehicle. The dealer fixed it free, but it required swapping two of the sensors themselves. The X had been in a salty environment (Omaha in winter) and somehow the crud got into the sensors and ruined them. |

Check the sensors under the rear bumper to see if one is unplugged or a wire is broken. They will do this if one is unplugged or not working. |
