I'm thinking about installing roof lights on my new X and am wondering if anybody has done it.
1. What's the best way to lay out the lights so their symetrical?
2. What tools do you need?
3. Should I have any concerns with drilling the roof..i.e. paint coming off and letting in corrosion?
4. Any pictures?
I like roof lights but sometimes they look like a little too much. I'm definately into a "clean" look and sometimes I think the roof lights won't as good on the X as they do on the pickups.
Pictures would be great!

Lance- check out my gallery as I have pictures posted of the lights. They are called high fives and can be had either from the dealer or I got aftermarket ones that match perfectly. Just make sure you order the late model type.
I installed them myself and it took about 1.5 hours. You nedd to remove the pillar handles and trim covers and the sun visors to gain access to the headliner which I then careful pulled down in the front to fish the wires through. I chose to wire them in directly to the headlamp switch instead of a separate toggle. The bottom brown wire on the factory switch is what you want to tap into.
You will drill holes in the roof to feed the wires through and of there are two pilot holes you will drill to mount the units with sheet metal screws.
To align your lights, start with the center and work out to each side so all your lights will be perfectly aligned. I think each one of lights is something like 7 1/4" apart.
Tool List
Phillips #2
Cordless drill with good bits for metal
Wire stripper
Electrical tape and connectors
Silicone for the screws
You might also want to have a few of beers and a couple of Marlboros on hand as well- most people get real nervous and anxious when drilling holes in their roof!
Also check Birdman's pictures out as he did the same to his X except has clear lens
Hope this helps you out

Eric that foreign substance is actually freezing rain,I took the X out at about 1am(night owl especially when snow is falling) there was only about 1/2" of the stuff on the ground and come 9am it was like 2" solid thick ice
I have more pics from later in the morning, tell ya what the X has Excellent traction on solid ice even in 4x2!! Some of my neighbors didn't fare as well tho
Last Valentines day we had like 6-8" of snow overnight, yes right here in Dallas! It made things crazy for the people that never drove on snow covered roads, myself I grew up outside Philly and Denver Colorado later on and am a glutton for the worst driving conditions!
