If our theory holds, I would look for differences in the frame makeup itself. Since they all have the same yield strength of 36,000 psi, I would start by looking at the frame size itself, including thickness of the channel. That's what I'm going to do, as soon as I can locate my micrometer.
fyi - I have the size specifications on the EX, but have not been able to find them on the F-Series truck.
Under the section titled "Maximum Side Box Section (in.), " the following information is provided:
7.27 x 2.82 x .201.
You might try to measure the F-350 frame for comparison. By the way, the regular cab section modulus is 5.6 on both the F-250 and the F-350. The F-350 CC is 6.0, so I would expect some difference on these as well.
As to differences to look for, this is pretty much all I have. I would expect there to be some differences in cross members, mounting locations, etc, but what I'm really going to look for are differences in the size and structure of the actual frame itself. I would not have to do this if I could find the box section specification on the F-Series trucks.
That's all for now. I'm headed out on a little road trip in my EX for the weekend. Have a great weekend everyone. It's been a good discussion.

Heres a link to the 2004 SD frame specs (page 59)
I dont think the X shares a frame with any other SD. Something that hasent been mentioned is that the X has more crossmembers (1 or 2, cant remember). So even though the frame might be flexier, the combination of contiguous body and extra crossmembers makes up for the lack of stiffness. |
