When you have the Ford OEM remote start and the diesel does the engine know to delay the start for the glow plugs when you use the remote?
I want this option and see myself using it the most in the winter, but don't to have starting problems if the remote doesn't start the diesel properly. |

Good question indeed,I asked the wife and she said that option would have been added only if the glow plug controller would guarantee the starter to crank only after the controller cycled otherwise perfect for the Gasoline engine powered X's

I work with a guy who had a PSD (has since traded it for another one) and his remote start worked just fine. I'm pretty sure it was factory installed/OEM, when he activated the remote start (if I remember correctly) the parking lights would come on then a short tiime later the truck would start like a gas engine. I'll check with to see if he has it on his new that just came in last month. Just a note, another co-worker had a remote installed at a dealership. Upon getting his truck back, the remote start works fine but he found the heater fan does not activate until he gets in and turns the key to the run position. He is in the process of getting it figured out now. |

I have an aftermarket remote start...the rear fans do not turn on with mine until the key is in the "on" position, however, the front fans in the dash do work. Make sure he gets that fixed, it's a great thing to have on those cold days! I usually will leave it on the floor/defrost position, max temp, and max fan speed. It'll defrost the windshield and warm up the truck quite nicely.

Eris does your remote start crank after the glow plug lamp goes out or does it crank automatically like on the Gas engines?

It cranks after the "Wait to start" light goes out. Works fine every time...if it doesn't start on the first crank (happens occasionally on cold days when using the remote start), it repeats the process and still waits for the "wait to start" light to cycle. It'll repeat this process 3 times before sending a signal back to my key fog letting me know that it failed to start.
It's a great setup, I love it on the cold, icey days. Don't have to use the ice scraper as much. For you Texans, here's what an ice scraper looks like:
Actually, my ice scraper has an adjustable extension on it. The above ice scraper would be a nightmare to use on the X! Too far to reach to the center of the windshield.

Almost two years ago we had to chip through 2-4" of solid ice,it was even more fun for the southerners that never experienced harsh winter weather, fortunately I'm raised in the northeast US and in Denver Colorado so i'm no stranger to winter

I have the Ford Remote Start and Alarm on my '04 PSD. It does wait for about 20 seconds before turning the engine over. The delay is the same, no matter how long it takes for the glow plug light to go out. There is also a time out setting. I haven't timed it, but I think it's about 5 minutes. That way, if you start it and get caught up doing something else, the engine won't idle forever. |
