I used this site over 3 years ago to make sure the truck of my dreams would really be the truck of my dreams. After ready just about every post there was, I went for it, and don't regret the decision a bit.
My 2000 now has 81K miles and runs and looks great. Up until last month, I had done several small upgrades, all cosmetics. After a few conversations with other Ford truck owners (including my son-in-law) I decided to try out the SMT. A week later I received my K&N FIPK by way of "Brown". The next day, my new toys were installed.
I am running the "performance-tow" program. The difference in the vehicle is unbelievable! Throttle response is that of a gas engine, and fuel mileage is out of this world. Now, I live in an area that lacks hills, but we have a ton of traffic lights. Around town I am averaging 22-23 MPG. HIghway is a whopping 31-32 MPG (running 60-65MPH). I couldn't believe my eyes when I first reset and then checked my computer, so I waited until I had to refuel to begin checking the figure manually. THE NUMBERS MATCH!!! Tomorrow will be the first time I tow my 5,200 lb trailer with it. I can't wait to see how it reacts.
With diesel fuel getting up over the $2.05 mark (I was just up in Baltimore and it closing in on $2.30 there), I figure this upgrade will pay for itself in a year. |

PM, I'd venture to say you're NOT getting 32 mpg in ANY X unless you have it towed up pike's peak and caost down each time...
While the programmer will help your mpg, ...
sorry, the programmers mess with the overhead calculations and obviously make it seem a bit more than it really is...
suggest you hand calculate it for the real mpg...

Ok. Ok. So now I see the tuner screws with the topside display. Man, do I feel stupid. Finally checked a full tank (43 gals - close enough) and combination highway/around town was 21 mpg average. A little let down, but still an improvement over pure stock. |
