So I've been hearing for over a year now that Ford will NOT be doing business with International for their diesels after this year or next.

1. Anybody know the status on this relationship?

2. Any info. on Ford "going back to the 7.3" rumour?

3. Does Ford actually own Cummins (someone told me this recently)?

4. Any rumours on Ford going to a Cummins assuming the International thing is true?

TIA

Remains in tact as far as I know.

There would be no point in doing so considering the switch they've made already with production lines, transmissions, etc. Besides, the 7.3L is an International engine.

No.

I would venture to guess that Dodge has an exclusive business relationship with Cummins and would not allow such a thing to happen. Again, I haven't heard any of these rumors at all.

Interesting.

I didn't think there was much truth to the Cummins and 7.3 rumours.

Would be cool if Cat wanted to get involved in the light truck market...

After the 03 6.0 start things got ugly.
Ford dumped Navistars plan to make a 4.5 V6 diesel for the half ton line and left Navistar with a 170 million dollar tab, Ford however compensated Navistar. Navistar wanted to do all the computer stuff to the 6.0 and Ford insisted on doing it at there assembly parts with there technology, big mistake Ford!

Will never happen. You can however purchase a brand new long block 7.3 from Ford to the tunes of $12,000!

3. Does Ford actually own Cummins (someone told me this recently)?
A Ford guy must have said this! Up until 1997 Ford owned no more than 10% of it's stock, at that time the stock was sold back to Cummins.

4. Any rumours on Ford going to a Cummins assuming the International thing is true?
This has been said for about 10 years now. I would only buy a 5.9 over a 6.0 and would take a 7.3 over both. Ford was said to have contacted Cummins about buildig a motor for the half ton truck segment but Ford was reported to have decided againts it. Dodge and Cummins have a contract that will last for several years.

The V6 diesel project was dumped when there was no way to make it meet the emission standards. Ford pulled the plug rather than continue to dump funds down a black hole. The half-ton trucks have much tougher standards to meet than the Super Duty and Excursion. So far, no one has been able to make a small truck diesel that will meet the standards. And as has been said already, Daimler-Chrysler has an exclusive agreement with Cummins. So there will be no Cummins in a Ford truck anytime soon.

The Volkswagon Toureg has to comply with the same 1/2-ton regulations, right? Or is it a differnet set because it's a different chassis. They've managed to get a diesel as an option on the Toureg...a 5.0L V10 Diesel. http://www.vw.com/touareg/features_us.htm

Yea, it would be the same emissions requirements. And that motor certainly has enough torque to power a F150/Expedition. Have they delivered any in the US?

$65,000+ if you can find one!!!

Makes the $50,000 Excursion look like a good deal.

I have yet to see one. Only reason I know about it was because a friend mentioned it to me and I couldn't believe VW had a diesel as an option in the Toureg, much less a V10. Can't wait to see one in person. It's gotta be crammed in that engine compartment!

The Ford / International relationship can't be all bad because Ford is selling their F350 pickup box to International. International is selling a pickup called the CXT (Commercial Extreme Truck) with the F350 box on the back. It a very cool pickup at a price tag of 100,000.00 dollars base 130,000.00 well equipped. Pick a copy of Truck Trent this month.......
