I honestly thought Joe's comments were inappropriate. But, more than that, I was confused by them! I really thought my brief posts were harmless and not worthy of harsh ridicule.
BUT, after reading Eric's opinion, I realize that my comments came off differently than I had intended. That's a HUGE problem with writing........ it's impossible to portray voice inflection, or, even sincerity for that matter.Regardless, here we are.
I really thought all the blame was on Joe for the rude comments. But, if Eric saw it the way he did, then my first post must have been read differently than it was written......... which is NO one's fault. That's just the nature of email and forums sometimes. I really didn't mean to imply that he was wrong.

J-Douglas,

Thank you for the sincere response. It is nice to see that we as a forum can talk through things rather than resorting to locked/deleted posts. I'd rather folks have the opportunity to defend themselves than risk having a series of follow-up threads get started and making someone mad enough to up and leave the site/forums.

I think it's clear that nobody here is deliberately trying to start trouble and it was more of a misunderstanding that needed to be resolved publicly rather than through a series of offline messages, locked threads, and warnings about site policies, rules, etc. With a small community, we also have this luxury. Some of the other larger sites would not tolerate any of these "off-topic" discussions.

I went with the PROCOMP EXCURSION 4x4 4in lift with the superlift 5 in blocks in the rear with rancho 9sk shocks with 315 75 r16 procomp all terrains.

JICKI.....
How did you know to go with Superlift 5" rear blocks?
A few weeks ago, I was browsing the ENTIRE internet to find out WHICH rear block is needed to level out the 4" ProComp Excursion lift. Many of the Excursion I saw were lower in the rear. Unless I am mistaken, I think I remember that the rear lift block needed to be replaced by a 3.5" block to be perfectly level.
Did you use another block that wasn't level before going with the 5" rear block?
Just curious. THANKS!

A friend of mine in the bay area did that to his Excursion so he could retain a somewhat normal rake so I get to pass on the wisdom

Its been a few days since I visited this thread, and my! has it grown....

First off, let me say that the "tone" of my posting directed at J-Douglas was harsh, and there was a bit of flaming involved. I will throw out the "sorry for being a dick" line, as that is not how I intended to come across, nor is it how I conduct my affairs in real life.

I will also say that I did in fact go back and read this entire thread from post #1.
While my info might have been confusing to J-D, I had my wife who knows NOTHING of the automotive world read my postings, and she seemed to understand what I was saying...
I still find it amazing where someone that "has owned a four wheel drive shop/company for 6 years" cannot understand the simple points I was trying to make.

Furthermore, your experience in this industry was thrown out as some sort of badge of authority.
I would caution you, and tell you that if you are going to stand up, and proclaim your experience in any subject, be ready to look like an ass when proven wrong.
Rather than post that you were confused by my posted info, (to imply that I didnt know what i was talking about) maybe you should have done the research needed to prove or disprove my info.

*I hope you have in fact, called ProComp to verify that yes, the SD and X lifts are the same (2=4, 4=6) This is knowledge which will help you be better informed when speaking with your customers.

In the end, I hope that my original info/heads up to the author of this thread was helpful.

Regards
Joe

Jarrett,I was wondering where ya went for I know you would have responded asap in a better fashion than the other poster.
I just learned today that I need an adjustable tracbar arm thingy, supposed to help clear up steering wandering)

I didn't go anywhere Bill..... I just was completely overwhelmed for a few weeks. I am in over my head trying to get a Masters degree in English. So, every now and then, I have to put "life" on hold while I have to assemble a huge project or writing portfolio. It's NOT my idea of fun!

AS FOR THE TRACK BAR.....
As I have said for years to customers, there's nothing I recommend more than a track bar (track arm) on a solid-axle suspension lift. I learned the hard way trying to put a 6" lift on a new Jeep. The track bar wasn't "tuned" correctly, so I was on the VERGE of DYING when I test drove the Jeep after I installed the lift. It was disastrous! ----------ironically, of all the lifts I have installed, it was only the ProComp Jeep lift that caused so many track bar problems. They are disastrous. In all honesty, I am shocked that no one has died from loss of control or rollover as a result.----------

HOWEVER, every Superduty/Excursion lift manuacturer that I have seen provides a track bar lowering bracket. They are completely sufficient and should not require an adjustable one. I had a 5.5" Fabtech lift on my Ex and the track bar lowering bracket provided AWESOME results. It provided lateral axle support JUST as good as stock. To be honest, I always recommend the track bar lowering bracket RATHER than a longer, adjustable track bar that replaces the lowering bracket.............. ONLY because the track bar lowering bracket allows the track bar to be more horizontal.of angle between the frame and the axle. The longer, adjustable track bar is GREAT, but, by nature, is more angled.... and not as horizontal.... thus increasing the lateral pressure on the track bar. I hope that makes sense.

Have you done research as far as the build difference between an F350 tracbar and an Excursion Tracbar? Another Excursion owner contacted me if I knew anyone with a F350 tracbar available to replace the Edge adjustable he has installedon his X.

WHAT???????? Are you serious?
Is this for real?
Who ever said I doubted your information? This is crazy! LET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR...
I NEVER DOUBTED YOUR INFORMATION.
I NEVER DOUBTED YOUR INFORMATION.
I NEVER DOUBTED YOUR INFORMATION.
This is insane........... a few threads ago, I even gave YOU credit for being more of an expert than me, since my specialty is for other lift manufacturers and NOT ProComp.
I GAVE YOU THE CREDIT for knowing more than me!
And, of more significance, since when does someone learning something that they didn't know before make them look like an ass?
This is rediculous. I wrote a sincere post acknowledging that the tone of my comment was not expressed as sincere... as I had intended.

I GAVE YOU THE CREDIT.
This is rediculous. I tried to make ammends, Joe. Is there anything else I can do for you to release this anger and drop it?
How about this....... I do NOT own a 4 wheel drive business. I know NOTHING about lifts. I am a complete ass for not knowing everything about everything about all things suspension.
DROP IT. There are so much more important issues in life to worry about.

Joe, I own a 4wd company and have never heard these figures before. I really have no clue what you're talking about... despite 6 years in the 4wd business with ProComp (ProCrap) experience.
Where are you getting these figures that a Superduty lift on an Excursion will be 2" higher than advertised?

My point is, dont start your repy with "...I own a 4wd company...."
because it sounds like you are saying this to give yourself the instant "Im right, you're wrong" position.

Tell you what, lets just drop it...
Have a nice day.

No, but i am curious as to the difference. I do know that Ford did produce some Excursions with a "thinner" track bar. I am not sure if these thinner track bars are only on early models, or just randomly installed on all years. I have compared the track bar on my 04 Ex to my friend's F-250 Diesel, and they are identical. THEY ARE THICK!!!!!! That is GOOD! My 2000 Excursion had the same diameter track bar . I never had any issues or concerns that made me question the diameter or setup. It was fantastic.

Hello Jarret just for the record I understood your posts completly!

The kind folks at 4 wheel parts unlimited here in dallas had the foresight to offer me the 5 in block.

When I first put the truck down off the lift it was nose high by 3/4 of an inch. After driving for 100 or so miles it is all level.

I am completly satisfied with this set up and the ex rides 100 times better than the old pancake outfit Ford put under there with 100k on it.

I am interested in why you have negative feelings towards ProComp?

Have your customers had bad experiences with Pro Comp lifts on the Excursion?

If so please share your experiences.

Since I just bought this setup and I am driving around with it I feel I should know what to be on the lookout for.

Thank you in advance Billy
