Hello and happy holidays to everyone. I have had my tire road forced balanced and they are in 100% balance/ I have no frozen slip yolk on drive shaft.

symptoms:
- When i accelerate hard from a stop there is a tremble?
- At 50 + mph it begins to tremble........(.almost like tire balancing but it is not.) and It get worse and worse the faster you go to the point where it feels unsafe.

I thought b/c of tremble when accelerating and on highway perhaps it is driveshaft or ..... new u joints???

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I plan on resolving this, this week. Thanks for the help.

The only thing I can suggest since all the other possibilities have been explored is to try a steering stabilizer. Remenber, you are lifted 3" and have 35" tires, you are not going to have a BMW ride. BTW, check your air pressure in the tires, especially since you just got the tires and not all techs are as exacting as you or I might be with the air pressure. Most poeople run close to max to improve gas mileage but it is always possible there is more air in one tire than the other and if the difference is significant enough-- whoala, tire vibration. I know this from experience.

GOOD LUCK

PS- If you have time today or tomorrow, bring it down and we'll have Keith's guy look it over.

If you feel a tremble on acceleration then it's most likely a u-joint issue. The best way to test your ujoint is:

1.) Put your X in neutral on a flat surface (engine off)

2.) Put blocks of wood in the front and rear of one of the wheels (to prevent it from moving)

3.) Crawl underneath it to examine the rear driveshaft

4.) Grab the rear driveshaft with both hands, try pushing it up and down, try moving it side to side, try manually rotating it. If you feel any movement whatsoever, you've got a bad u-joint. Make sure to try this at both ends of the driveshaft (there's a u-joint at the transfer case and at the rear differential).

This is a cheap and easy fix. Local parts store will have ujoints on hand for you. You'll need a pair of pliers (to remove the retainer clips) and a ratchet to remove the bolts holding the driveshaft to the transfer case or rearend.

Also, double-check the u-bolts around the leaf springs. Maybe something is loose there? Really the only things that should move when you take off from a stop are your rearend and the associated suspension/driveline components (driveshaft, shocks, leaf springs).

eric, thats a great how to. but Im thinking that its in the tires, I went to a 4" lift and 35" nitto's, I get a little shimmy at 45mph but they say there is a wheel balancer at discount tire that can better match the tire to the rim. and fix this problem. but on second thought I think maybe Eric could be right, IM SOOOO CONFUSED!!!!!!

It really is all about size!!!!!!

First thing I'd go at is the driveline(just my opinion) then comes tire balance and tire psi which we had a sort of difficult time with tuning the 285 BFG's and the Pirellis but both are A-okay now..

If it's a balance issue a set of Centramatics will clear that up if there's a front wobble then upgrading your steering stabilizer to like a Procomp ES2000 may do the trick, the stock one is terrible.

sounds like the rear is out of wack!!!!! your rear axle might be out of line with the new lift. Mine was bad then I shimmed the axle and all is better.

Lining up the angle with the driveline thru shimmed blocks can help.

I have looked into u joints and they are in great shape. We discovered the drive shaft was off by 1-1.5 degrees. we are getting either new blocks or shims to hopefully fix the problem. I f there is still excess shaking I am going to lower air pressure a bit and perhaps run a new steering stabilizer.. After that it would be radius rods, I should know the outcome and or the next steps by tomorrow late ot friday. I hope it is the chims though.

Thank you to everyone for the help and input 'Happy holidays

turned out that that shimmed blocks did the trick!!!! I am so glad...the process of elimination can be such a pain in the A... What are your thoughts on steering stablizers to replace the stock one??

Thanks for the input

Replace the stock stabilizer with a much better unit.

I went with the single Procomp ES2000 which helped dampen the steering wheel shake/wobble when hitting railroad crossings, potholes and gated entry rails

The ES2000 installed on our X PHOTO
