Mark Peterson | Mark, I see you're in the Big Lake area, so the temps haven't been too forgiving lately...although this evening it was 10 degrees. I have not had any problems with starting in the cold weather. I do drive my X every day, though.
A few questions:
How long had it been sitting?
Was it outside or in a garage?
What year is your X?
Have the batteries been completely run down in the past?
No interior lights seems pretty odd. Do you have anything plugged into the cigarette lighter(s)? Even if a dome light was left on, the X will automatically shut it off after a certain period of time to prevent draining the batteries. Any other accessories that you have installed/plugged in?
I have 132,000 miles on my 2000 Excursion and have only had to jump it once...and that was this fall when I drained the batteries listening to the Vikings game while doing yard work. Those batteries are no match for my amps, subs, speakers, 2 Alpine decks, and AM radio cranked way up!! I'd plug the block heater in tonight and keep the batteries charging. Don't make too many starting attempts otherwise you'll burn out the starter. That's an expensive repair. ($350+)
Leave her running if you're making a quick stop...don't want to get yourslef stranded again. I wouldn't trust the batteries at this point. It may be time for a replacement if they were completed drained in this weather with nothing obvious to blame it on!

Me too....
my issue was the alternator was only puitting out 12.8 volts...
so it was "marginally" keeping up and finally it went too far and stranded us on a realatively cold day (very cold for North Texas !!! in the teens )
Am "discussing" the battery replacement with the svc dept now...
