So the batteries are still completely dead. I went to plug the block heater in for the night and it

started sparking and smoking! What the heck is going on?

The block heater cord may be corroded and it is shorting out on your frame or some other piece of metal. Can you take a look at the cord and see if there are any cuts or worn spots in it?

As Eric stated give that block heater cord a close inspection as I've seen a few other Powerstroke powered trucks go up in flames(2 last winter) resulting from the cord

Thanks guys, I did inspect the cord and found a small slice. I taped it up, and plugged it in, and it

keeps tripping my GCF Outlet! Any More advice? Replace the whole cord? The last response about

2 in flames scares the hell outta me!

Mark,if a replacement cord is available thru fordpartsonline.com I'd purchase it

I haven't traced the path the cord going from the block to the front but if you can put a protective sleeve over the cord that might help prevent future chafing

Lost 5 in 2 months in my area all from bad cords. Seems they have a problem at the plug. Molded plug grrrr. Mine sparked and smoked but got it unpluged before the local FD got number 6.

Stop by Home Depot and pick up a heavy duty plug to hardwire in then wrap up the wire with some electrical tape or something alike to protect the wire.

hi apology for making this thread up! the gas furnaces don\\'t work when electricity goes off because of the ignition and fan. In cold climates there is a need for a back up heat source. Can anyone recommend a supplier of it?
