Had my front rotors turned back in the summer...it was starting to vibrate badly during light/moderate braking.

Guy that turned them said they were in need of turning....at that time I had about 55,000 miles I think.

Now I have about 65,000 on my O1 PSD...and it is starting to vibrate AGAIN under light/moderate braking...

What gives? Did he do a bad job?

Or would anyone suggest I replace the factory rotors with some heavy duty after-market rotors?

Brake man said the X is tough on rotors...

Thoughts? Opinions??

Thx

Charles,

This topic has been covered in great detail in past posts. The general consensus is:

1.) Tighten lug nuts to 165 ft-lbs using a torque wrench. Not using a torque wrench will cause the lug nuts to be tightend unevenly and will lead to warping.

2.) Aftermarket rotors are available. They will generally improve braking of the Excursion, too.

3.) Check out the following links:

my advice for you with empty pockets.

Get the cheapest rotors from autozone, i think they are about 60 bucks each and ceramix pads @ 70 bucks. The only difference between the cheap rotors from an auto store and the spendy ones are the warranty. Quality is the same. How do you warranty brake pads or rotors? its silly, dont throw away good money. Your vibration could also be caused by heat cracking as well.

Aftermarket rotors are spendy, and if your pockets are empty than go cheap.

I disagree. I bought ART rotors and pads becuase I wanted much better stopping power. They have performed very well for 30k miles. I don't recall any special or better warranty for the money. But they certainly delivered on my needs. I'd buy them again, even tho more expensive.

Yeah, but ART cyrongenically frozen rotors arent available "Cheap" at a local autostore.
If you read the above sig line you will see empty pockets.

The price between NAPA's fancy rotor and the low cost rotor is warranty only. Both rotors are made in some town in with the same quality. Ceramix brake pads however, do serve a purpose by keeping the brake dust off your wheels.
