Guys,

I am fairly new to this site...I love it...I have an 02 Ex and I absolutely love it. I try and do most of the easy Maint. myself. I have one question...Does it really matter if the engine is warm to change the engine oil. I have the V-10 and use this car for pleasure use. It gets driven at best 500 miles monthly, but when it does, I drive it atleast 20 miles so the engine completly warms up. It has never been driven a small distance and then shut off. I usually change the oil after it has been sitting for atleast a day or 2 and let the oil drain for an hour or so and do the same with the oil filter. wasn't sure if I was getting all of the oil out of the upper part of the engine when I do this. I have always used MotorCraft Syn. Blend 5W20 and the MotorCraft oil filter and fill her up with 6.25 quarts of oil. The engine has never once used a drop of oil, knock on wood and she only has 26,000 miles on her clock.

I would appreciate any feedback...

Thanks...

Scott

Scott good question.

You should always warm up your engine before an oil change!

The reason being is that as the engine warms up any deposits will liquify and come out with the oil and the oil losens up (gains viscocity) as it becomes warm and will flow out of the engine easily allowing any contaminets to flow out with the oil.

It's your truck do what you want but if you want the cleanest oil you can have then warm up the truck to operating temp before the change.

Hope this helps.

I personally will rarely change the oil after driving simply because it's hot to the touch if it gets on your skin (and it usually does for me). 132,000 miles and no issues thus far. However, I do drive it and average 2,500 miles per month.
