Hey guys,

I just joined the club last week and have soaking up some of the great info all of you provide. It seems a consensus that 2000 rpm's, or around 66 mph, is the "sweet spot" for mileage. Once I started to pay attention to the tach in my 2000 X, 4WD, I noticed that at 2000 rpm's I am only running 59 mph. Is this something I should be concerned about? Idle problem? If anyone has a suggestion, let me know. It is great to be a part of this club. Andy

Hi Andy,

What size tires are on your X? It's possible that they may be larger than stock and throwing off your speedometer reading.

2000 RPM is definitely the sweet spot. 65-70 MPH = 18-19 MPG in my diesel Excursion. Any faster and she starts going downhill...fast!

Don't know the rear end gear ratio, other than it is stock and recently recalibrated by Ford back to fact. specs after I took the 5.5 lift off and 35's. I am running the stock factory Firestone issued in the latest recall.

I am also having trouble getting my vehicle listed and photo on, the site says it is in my profile, but it never comes up.

The smallest gear ratio you would have would be 3.73 (unless aftermarket gears were installed previously). I think Ford may have incorrectly calibrated your speedometer. It is clearly off.

On second thought, maybe your speedo is correct...I forgot you had the V10.

Here's a pic of my Powerstroke X and the RPM at 75MPH. Approx. 2,250 RPM:

If I remember correctly, at 75 I may be at 2500 to 3000 rpm, that seems high to me.
