Okay, I have sqeaking in my 2000, 2X4 Excursion as other people have discussed previously here. I know for a fact that my source of the sqeaking is the body mounts. The driver's side of my X was sqeaking and I asked my mechanic to put some WD40 on the body mounts. Well he did this and it stopped the sqeaking on the driver's side body mounts, but now the passenger side is sqeaking much worse than the driver's side ever did! I asked my mechanic about replacing the body mount bushings and he said that he wouldn't do it if it was his. Well, he doesn't have to listen to the constant sqeaking! I have three questions:

1) Should I go to the trouble of having the body mount bushings replaced or is it a huge job?
2) Poly body mount bushings are available, should I use factory of poly bushings?
3) Will this more than likely cause my problem to go away?

This is a very irritating noise that I just don't want to live with.

Thanks,

Roger

Polyurethane pieces will only help quiet the noise because they are shipped with lubricant that MUST be used if you wish to avoid squeaking. Poly-bushings are very prone to squeaking. A silicon-based lubricant should be all you need.

If you have it done, I would have it done by a 4x4 shop that is capable of doing body lifts. 4x4 shops will have a lift in place that will be able to properly raise the body off of the frame. The biggest thing you want to avoid is tweaking the body when lifting it off of the frame to replace the body mounts bushings.

I don't think your mechanic wants to do this procedure, juding by his response. If lubricating the mounts doesn't fix it, then replacing them is not out of the question...just find a 4x4 shop that's done it before.
