I have a 2002 7.3 that I have had for about 7 months now. With the price of diesel these days I was thinking of buying a programmer that has a few options, besides towing mode, a modefor fuel economy. Does any of the programmers have a fuel economy mode? I drive light on the foot and around town get 16-17. On the hightway I get good gas mileage but once I push it above 70 mph, wow does the mileage go way down. What is the best all around programmer to get improved gas mileage as well as it has towing modes?
The next question is I have never pulled anything with my X. However this year I plan on purchasing a used boat but it is going to be 31-33 feet in lenght and will be pulled when need be by the X. Does the X have any self leveling airbags like on some of the other large SUV's out there? If it does will it automacitcally adjust? If it doesn't have them does anyone recommend putting them in? I would hate to attach the trailer and turn the X into one of those low a@@ rear ends with a trailer on it. Sorry for the stupid suspension question but don't know anyone in the area that really knows....
Thanks....

poormonkey,
There are several chips that offer an "economy" mode. I would personally go with an Edge Programmer. There are other brands, too, just get the one that offers the mods you want.
If you plan on towing that boat with the chip enabled, then you will definitely need temp gauges to monitor exhaust temp. You will also want to go with an aftermarket exhaust setup that increases the diameter of your exhaust to lower the exhaust temps. An aftermarket chip on any setting will increase the exhaust temps...the larger diameter exhaust will offset those changes.
http://www.dieselinnovations.com for some ideas on chips and exhaust.
As for the air bags and towing...the Excursion does not come with air bags, you will have to buy those aftermarket. Other folks here will have to answer this as I have no experience. You might be better off posting a separate question with "towing" and/or "air bags" in the subject line to catch the attention of those folks. Don't forget to search, too! I know this subject has come up before:

You are going to have to watch the tongue wieght on that boat you are planning on purchasing.....I have a 40' boat trailer that weighs 10,000lbs w/ 1,000 lbs of tongue weight....its right on the limit of the weak hitch that's its got.....I installed the Firestone Air bags and they are a tremendous fix for the sagging rear end. The rear leaf spings are weak on the X....particularly for towing such as you intend....some have opted to install F350 leaf springs which are much stiffer.....I like the air bags because when I'm not towing I let the air out and get the softer ride.....
