Does anyone know of where I can get FORD extended warranty after market on my 2002 Excursion for a good competitive price?
I am interested in the premium care plan. My excursion has 9000 miles on it now.
Thanks for the info. |

Ford Extended warranty and aftermarket warranties are two different things. I would recommend going with a Ford extended warranty. Here's a site that will get you pricing information:

My X had 35,500 miles and I was not sure if I was going to keep it.
I decided to keep it. I purchased a extended warranty. We called and talked to the nice folks at (800) 728-1912
http://www.fordwarrantycentral.com/
Very pleasant and quick phone call started the contract. I paid $1,600 for
Premium Care Plan
100K miles
72 months.
$50 Deduct.

Fords extended waranty.... BAH HUMBUG....!!!!!!
Here in canada we get extended warantys in km not miles. IE 80k 100k KM. So it's a joke from the very begining. If you do the math, 100,000km = 62,500miles.
After 60,000 km, there is a $100.00 deductable. So unless you are a total mechanical klutz, its not worth it unless you happen to know you have a bonafide lemon.
My experience is that its really rare for something major to go wrong if it hasn't happened within the first few thousand miles and the factory waranty covers that.
I had the same experience with my Bronco which I had for 19 years. The only thing that went wrong was the wiper motor and it happened in the first year.
Similarily, our focus had a bum alternator, again, in the first year.
Extended waranty, HaH!!!!! Bull Crap. Your $1600.00 would be better spent on a real problem.
Dave.

Well Dave,
I have owned many diffrent cars in the past, up until this Ford I have never taken a car to a shop (except for A/C repair). But in the first 2 years Ford has rebuilt the rear end twice, put in three drive shafts, replaced the steering wheel, replaced a stereo and replaced the rear hatch window and painted the rear door. All for $0.00
Looking back at the history of this truck "I LOVE" I made a choice to keep it. It then becomes a choice of my time or my money. At this point in my life I have more money than time. Not alot of either! With two young kids I have less time.
My intention for the family truck is to tow my trailers to the mountains. If I encounter a major failure it will pay for the contract.
Well that is my 160,000 cents worth!

It's basically like insurance. You can gamble and not buy insurance because yes, the odds are that nothing serious will happen where you would need all the coverage insurance provides but if something does happen, peace of mind is worth more to some than others so the up-front cost of the warranty + the $100 deductible is worth it. I purchased an extended warranty of which I have about 25,000 miles left...basically another year. No major problems yet. Even if something major did go wrong, there's no way I could diagnose anything, much less repair under that hood -- too much "computer stuff."

I guess I should know better than to rant but I really don't think fords extended waranty is reasonable. For the most part the odds are in their favour. I have the 80k km extended, but only because I got a reduction due to the fact that my dealer did a little false advertising on the sticker price.
Perhaps I've lost my conception of what a reasonable deductable should be but I think that after having paid X amount of dollars for an extended waranty, I should not have to pay $100.00 Just because my truck has gone over the 60k km mark. I didn't have to pay a deductable on the factory waranty. Having paid X dollars, the odds are still very much in ford's favour regardless of the size of the problem.
Ken, your right. If anything major happens Your covered. My grumble is that if something minor happens, and if it happenes more than a couple of times, that 100 dollar deuctable gets expensive and the cost of your waranty goes up each time.
Sorry guys, It just makes me go GRRRRRRRR.
