Looking to replace the OEM shocks on my 2001 X. I do very little off road, mostly street driving and a lot of commutting to/from/at work, and a lot of boat towing in the summer. Most threads I've read seem to mostly mention Rancho RS9000 Adsustables or Pro CompES 9000, also in the running are Edelbrock and Bilstien. Pro Comp ES9000 are the losest price, with the Rancho, Bilstein and Edelbrock all running about the same, but substantially higher than the Pro Comp. My question is, is it worth the extra $$$ to go to one of these higher price shocks? I've only had experience with the Rancho, but it was the 5000 series. I don't mind spending the extra dough if there is really a noticable difference. Thinking the adjustability of the Ranchos may be plus when it comes time to haul the boat this summer. (No other suspension mods, except Hellwig read anti-sway bar). thank for your opinions. |

Going from the stock shocks to the 9000X's is quite a big jump in better ride quality non-towing and towing alike(I tow up to 8,000lbs)
I too looked at the procomp adjustables but the 9000X's was on buy 3 get 1 free offer so the decision was made, glad we chose the Ranchos and worth the money many times over

I would suggest that you also look at the Rancho RSX shocks. I didin't feel like I need the adjustability of the 9000s and the RSX were less money. I've had them for a year and I'm pleased with the result.

Spend the money on the adjustable Ranchos if you truly will use the feature. I recently adjusted mine to the next highest setting because they are starting to show their age (about 80k on them). Otherwise they stay on the same setting.
I don't do any towing...if I did, I would adjust them. Something about the option of being able to adjust the shocks is nice. Actually doing it is another story...

It depends....
on what you think worth it is !
But to me (and others) the stock shocks are marginal at best...
I know a bud that replaced his @ about 150 miles !
I too went with the adjustables... and found that I like them on setting 1 (the softest) and air my tires up a bit more - logically should get me a tad betta mpg.... but haven't quantified it...

I know quite a few people that have purchased from there with good results but for the best current price you can't beat www.summitracing.com for they have a Buy 3 get 1 deal going on,it comes out to $257 plus applicable tax and a small shipping charge
