Hello all,
I have a 2000 PSD with just under 98K miles on it. As I prepare to cross over the 100K warranty mark my nerves are starting to fray and I was wondering if there was anything I should be double checking right now that might be on its last legs that I could still get repaired before it is too late. The X is running well except some hard shifting (is the tranny still under warranty or is it just the motor?) and a slight oil leak. Any suggestions on what to look for or have checked would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Excursion Forums Dan

Yeah the tranny I believe has the standard 3 year/36,000 mile warranty and the Powerstroke engine is covered by a 100,000 mile warranty with a $100 deductible after 36k miles.

Where the oil leak is coming from could be from a variety of sources, you may have to be a little more specific on it's location as best as possible.

On your tranny running rough when was the last time it had a fluid flush and filter change if you can recall?

Dan,

Welcome to the club. I'm not sure if you are talking about the Powerstroke 100K warranty or an extended 100K warranty. If it's an extended warranty, pay the deductible and have the dealer look at the trans.

Any engine leaks should get looked at now, too. I've got a leak up in the front on the CAC hose (coming off of the intercooler). Nothing serious and something I plan on fixing on my own.

I've got 135k on my 2000 PSD X and it still runs very strong. I'm on my 2nd tranny though (mine died at 87k).

I can't think of anything else that you should have looked at under the warranty. Most of the things now are going to be wear items that you replace. Check out my X's registry entry (click the link to my vehicles under my name) and you can see the maintenance I've done at what mileage it was at.

Things you should be thinking about doing from a maintenance standpoint are:
- new power steering fluid
- new front/rear differential fluid
- my ball joints lasted for 130k, so expect that repair to be on the list of things to do in the next year or two, depending on your driving habits
- tranny flush

Let us know if you have any other questions!
