Just came in from throwing a small bolt in the vacuum line and voila! we got heat on MAX air also
Even with my years of Diesel know how I'm still learning these tricks but it's up to the members that spur these actions

It works great. I can adjust the temperture now in Max A/C mode. I was suprised the dealer actually pulled the vacuum tube as I asked them to considering they never like to alter the car the way it comes from the factory. But, fortunately, he took your advice and removed it. There is actually a bolt right next to the valve holding something together. The tip of the vacuum tube fits perfectly over this bolt for a good storage spot instead of leaving the tube just hanging. I just cant understand why ford would add that tube to prevent recirculated heat in the manual a/c system even though the auto system allows recirculated heat. There has got to be a reason. Probably the only one who could answer that is the main engineer at Ford for the Excursion. In any event, now that the tube has been removed, do I have to cover the Coolant shutoff valve? Do you know why this vacuum tube was connected to this specific valve? Thanks Again. (By the way, for those interested, my Truck is a 2005 Excusrsion XLT Diesel 4x4) |

Yeah I fiddled with the Hot/Cold settings while in MAX and works both ways for the right comfort level.
Don't worry about the vacuum tip on the shutoff valve long as you don't mud dip your Excursion, you'll be hooking the vacuum line back up in the next month or so for AC season.
The reason why that coolant shutoff valve was installed on the Excursion(ONLY) was to maximize the lowest Air Conditioning cooling temperatures by re-directing the flow of hot coolant away from the heater core/exchanger so the AC evaporator isn't exposed to the radiant heat from the coolant in the blower box.
I have taken some steps/done alot of work to drop the temps some 10-20 degrees depending on far you want to take it for the coldest AC available in the Excursions but we'll cover that in the next month or two when spring weather finally kicks in and ready to modify our rigs for the summer.

I'm interested in this...especially if it can improve the AC temp while the X is idling. Rush hour can get kind of warm.
