Hi everyone, new on the board. Great info here!
I have a deal pending on a 2004 X Limited 4x4 6.0PSD absoultely clean beautiful vehicle. It has 11,000 miles on it and the test drive was like a dream, smooth at all speeds and the engine purred like a cat. The dealer told me that the factory had taken it back from the original owner due to stalling problems. The problem(s) were fixed and sold to the Ford dealer I have been working with. They showed me the documentation regarding the problem and the repair. According to the document the replaced a battery and reflashed. They may have done something else but I can't remember what all was on the doc. I am having the dealer fax me that document in few min. My worry is the CPS issue. I have also arranged to speak with one of their diesel mechanics before I say nay or yay. I think I have worked out an awesome deal with them (started at $41k and am at $37,500 right now) KBB from a dealer is $43,500 and private to private is $38,900. It has all the gadgets plus quad captains and DVD ent. and 6 cd prem. sound. Carfax shows completely clean.
Would appreciate some quick feedback.
Greg

Hi there Greg,Welcome to the Excursion Forums Sounds like you have a good deal working out,long as you get all the documentation as what repairs were made I wouldn't be too concerned.
I'm not 100% on the 6.0L's yet but CPS speaking you won't find that on the 6.0L's that's a 7.3L Exclusive so to speak I'd like to see some pics of the Excursion once if you close the deal Bill

Greg I forwarded the fax you received with the repair detail to a friend to get his take on it as he's a Ford Senior Master tech and I'm still learning about the 6.0L's and don't want to guess I'll immediately post his reply on the fax details Bill

Greg,after Tim ran the OASIS on the trucks VIN here is what he had to say and recommend;
| Quote: | Bill
This X had some issues that the customer, I think just got tired of dealing with. Nothing bad shows up on Fords end except the CUDL Contact closed, Customer Data Link to track customer concerns, and the reacquired vehicle so I think the dealer did a good will jester with them and probably got them into something else. I would have your friend, if he is serous, low ball the offer and see if they will throw in a Ford ESP Premium Care extended warranty. I would only recommend this warranty because it covers all most everything on the vehicle. I don't like aftermarket type warranty's. They can be a bear to deal with and will try to short cut us, the dealer, on all repair issues. Is the dealer, Allan Vigil Ford the one that is selling the X? I am not sure of the Lemon Laws in your state. In CT all Lemon Law buy backs must go out of state to be resold unless something has changed since I have been into that end of the dealers business.

Even without the Extended Warranty, that 6.0L Powerstroke will come with a 100k warranty by default...so if the stalling problem creeps up again, it would be considered an engine-related issue and would be covered by the Powerstroke warranty. Powerstroke warranties are transferrable from owner-to-owner.
An extended warranty option would be nice, to cover anything else. The price sounds mighty fine, if you ask me. That's one loaded vehicle for $37,500.
BTW Greg, welcome to the club!

I think they might give me a hard time about adding the extended warranty. I've low balled them pretty good IMHO My bigger issue at the moment, that I did not realize until lastnight, is that it does not have the telescopic tow mirrors on it! I will be towing a 30' travel trailer with this and those would come in handy. I can't believe this one did not have those! I am trying to work out a swap out in the deal and have pitched it to them. They are going to look into it. Does anyone know if this is a big deal? I have found them on the internet for about $100 per side. So far I have put 200 miles on this thing on an overnight extended test drive. This thing has run beautifuly and I am astounded by the gas mileage in Atlanta rush hour traffic. I was averaging 15.5mpg according to the computer (although I have heard not to rely on this figure).

Right on Greg glad to hear you're picking up the truck If when you go with the Tow mirrrors stick with the OEM's if at all possible as the China aftermarket TT mirrors bolt studs are not long enough to thread the locking nuts to. Add some pics to your album when you get a chane I'm others will wanna check out the new ride,don't worry about mileage it'll get better Bill

| Adding the tow mirrors won't be a big deal at all. If they don't want to do it, at least see if they can get you an OEM set for dealer cost and you can do it yourself on a weekend. I love my tow mirrors!

[quote]don't worry about mileage it'll get better. (I hope I just did that quote right!) I was actually impressed with this figure. Considering I was also looking at a Chevy Suburban 3/4 ton with an 8.1 big block (maybe blasphemy on this page, sorry. I personally have never owned a Chevy. Usually only Fords or Hondas) I was staring down 8mpg on the highway with that animal! I had heard figures of 4-7 mpg towing! I will give the Burb credit in one area. The interior of the LT model I looked at was very nice and even had a sunroof, which, for the life of me can't undertand why they left this option out of the X.
Ps. I have not picked it up yet. We got into a sticking point when I went back to get the paperwork going. They were trying to add a $191 junk fee line item in on me and I walked. They did agree to sell me the mirrors for $177 if I installed them. The line item said Dealer Prep, which we all know stands for Dealer Profit! I don't mind them making a profit but when I work out a deal they better have in mind a final number and not go in with the idea they can start adding misc. stuff in. I'll pay the tax tag & title but not junk fees. I will give you an update.
