Howdy!
Newbe here, new X and new to the forum. My question is about the Must Do article on this site.
I'm wondering how much of this applies to the 05 model. The article states that Ford started including rear anti-sway bars in 04. Is there any advantage to replacing the stock one with Hellwig or are they the same?
What shocks is everyone running?
The windshield wipers seem fine on my X, I have not measured them yet, did ford change them for 05?
What about Radius Rods, are they beneficial with the 05?
One more, I will try a search of course, but does anyone have a link handy to what tires fit with what lift? (Sorry in advance, I know form hangin on the Jeep boards this question gets asked WAY too much)

Yeap the 2005 Excursion comes with the rear swaybar, the hellwig is like 1/4" larger in diameter give or take a few centimeters.

I'm running with the Rancho 9000X shocks (9)user settings, have had them on our X since Sept 2002 and love em'

They should be 20" stock blades, alot of the guys/gals upgrade to the 24"s

I believe the R-Rods are beneficial to all Excursions as they pretty much cure axle wrap according to owners that currently have them installed, soon enough I'll have mine as well

You know you're in the vicinity of one of the southwest's best 4x4 shops? Give Ryan a call or stop by SuperDuty HeadQuarters in nearby Gilbert, they're just east of South Mesa on East Baseline, they'll answer your questions and concerns you may have when it comes to lifts in addition to what out members will cover

Thanks for the quick response!
So performance wise, theres no adfvantage to the Hellwig, it's just a bit stronger?
I am very familiar with the Ranch 9000's, I ran them on my Rock Crawler for a while and they wok great.
Sounds like R-Rods are a good thing, I'll be looking into some.
I was aware that SDHQ is in town, I had a 04 F250 PSD before the X, I've never been to their shop, but I've certainly drooled over their website. Might be time to give them a call.
Thanks again.

Response time I usually keep pretty close but family matters always takes priority
The Hellwig is abit stronger due to the slightly larger diameter bar and few owners have reported better handling over the stock swaybar.
Defininitely swing by SDHQ in your travels,Ryan and his staff are great people to deal with, mention to Ryan that Bill from Dallas sent ya,I have relatives and friends around the Phoenix area and always make it a point to organize a Get-Together when in town so consider yourself invited
Post up with any questions you may have or chime in on any of the threads anytime

Brandon,
Welcome to the club, glad to have you aboard.
Regarding the '05-specific questions...they wipers are probably fine, it's just that you can fit larger ones on them. For us folks in the north where it snows a lot, another 4 inches of clean windshield is a big deal when your vehicle has been out in the parking lot all day collecting snow. As CHP said, stock wipers are in the 20" range. If you could measure yours and report back, that'd help, I can amend the article.
I run RS9000 shocks (the 9000x's weren't out when I purchased the 9000's). Settings in front/rear are 3/3.
I don't know enough about the '05s yet to be able to comment on the handling. I would ask LANDYOT if he's had any '05 customers, yet.
For the rear sway bar, I would personally wait and see how the factory sway bar does. Just the fact that it has a front and rear sway bar is a step in the right direction. For "around town" driving, I would guess that you probably wouldn't notice a difference between OEM and Hellwig...but this is purely speculation. If you're towing heavy loads, it may be another story.

I've had a few already with 2005s. I had one guy who test drove both an X and an F350 SRW, and he said he would get the X, but ONLY if he was assured he could also get a pair of radius-rods. |
