| Quote: | Ok here's a couple for you guys...
I have a 2005 EB PSD 4X4 and it came with a front/rear sway bar. The rear bar is a spindly thing, but the front is pretty hefty.
The front however HANGS DOWN WAY BELOW the axle at the ends, with looong links to the body.
Wassup with that? I off-road every week, and have already hit the front sway bar ends, and dented in the factory steering stabilizer.
Does the hellwig aftermarket front bar hang down?
Can I get short links...or cut and re-weld shorter the ones I have?
Does the Hellwig rear bar work a lot better than the ford one...it LOOKS better?
And LANDYOT....Can I install your ultra-cool radius rods with a 4" block in the back like I have?
Thanks!

Quietman,
Yes you can run the Radius Rods with a four inch block, I did and had no problems. I didn't have to cut the "ears" but LandYot gave me a little more threaded rod for the increase in lift.

WELL, OK THEN! I got the Helwig bar installed on the rear, and the new steering stabilizer installed on the front, along with LandYot's radius rods (on the rear, of course). I have to call my mechanic back and find out what he did with MY Excursion, 'cause the one I've got this afternoon sure don't drive like mine!
WOW!!!!
And, BTW, my 2000 Ex DOES have the front factory sway bar... so I cancelled my order for the front...
This thing handles almost as well as my wife's '92 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4! It's NEVER cornered flat and level like this! ALL of the mushies are history! WOW!!!!

These swaybars work with lifts too right? I have a 6" lift and want to make sure it will work. I con't tell from the picture where the front part mounts too... ??? From what everyone is saying it sounds like I should get one! |

They will fit a lift kit...you should get confirmation from someone on here who's done a 6" lift -- but the end links are adjustable. This picture isn't the greatest because the leaf spring and yellow snubber is blocking the view.
Here's a pic of the sway bar disassembled, it's a better pic of the end links:

I know Jon Holder's 5" lifted Excursion has the hellwig installed and the end links are at their maximum setting.

I have to rave one more time... I took the Ex on a hundred mile round trip on Friday... over hill and dale, thorugh the country, throught the city, through a parking ramp with BIG speed bumps... and back...
This thing has NEVER handled like this! I AM AMAZED at the difference with the sway bar, shocks, and radius rods! I went over bumps, particularly the speed bumps in the parking ramp, that used to throw us all over inside the Ex... on Friday, it was a whole different truck! The ride is a little more stiff, but the handling difference is amazing! I am convinced now that the handling problems I experienced while towing will be a thing of the past. I'll let you know for sure in May when I start dragging the Airstream around again!

It's a little later than May... but we haven't had the Airstream out this summer at all until last weekend. We drug it on a 400 mile round trip over hill and dale to northeast Iowa. I believe that the beast is tamed. There was never a moment on this trip when I felt that the trailer was seriously controlling the Ex. NOT the case on previous trips.
The combination of the new shocks, LandYot's radius rods and the Helwig rear sway bar has made the Ex what Ford should have made it to begin with!
Thanks for the help everyone!

The difference when towing with/without the rear sway bar is night and day regardless if the X is a 4x4 or 4x2
Come back often!!
