I checked the difference between the "Miles to Empty" number and the odometer reading. I found that the comp. was short by .2 miles. By my figures that cuts nearly 100 miles off my total. Is this right and/or common among you guys? |

Andy,
I'm not following the equation you're using to come up with 100 miles off. Are you saying that your "miles to empty" reads 100 miles higher than what's actually left in the tank? If so, that's way off.
I find my "miles to empty" is accurate...within a mile or two. I've never driven it down to 0. Always seems to have generally the right "miles left" on the display as I get down to 1-3 gallons left in the tank.

If the miles to empty reads 1 it changes every 8 tenths of a mile according to the odometer reading, therefore .2 miles off. If you multiply that .2 times say 400 miles left to empty, add the difference, you get an actually # of 480 miles to empty. I actually ran the comp. to 0 miles to empty and went approx 2 miles before filling, if my wife and kids had not been with I would have gone till I ran out of gas just to see how far I could go. Maybe one day. |

And not sure why we are discussing the merits of the overhead "Lie-O-meter" anyway

I like the overhead display for the outdoor temp and direction but the miles to empty and mpg I don't count on.
I stick by the calculate your mileage on paper method

Andy,
Since our little X's gulp down fuel at relatively high rates' I believe this is a possible reason why the "miles remaining" feature is a bust. Around town it's hilarious. Next time to get a chance, reset your mpg setting and drive a few miles. Watch it when you come to a stop light. I think I have droppped 2 mpg sitting at a redlight. Anyway, I assume this quirk in the computer--or our engine's healthy appetites--or both--plus a likely Chinese computer probably account for this. Personally, I never look at it anyway. With a V10-when you're down to 1/8 of a tank, you got maybe a hundred miles left to empty--if you coast a lot. Heck we didn't buy these things for gas mileage anyway! |

Your overhead display shows outdoor temp? Mine shows MPG, Direction and Miles to Empty.
I have no idea how accurate mine is, I assumed not very. Last Tuesday mine shows 30 miles to empty, it scared me enough to pay $2.69 a gallon for diesel. For the mathmetically impaired, $25 gave me a little over 9 gallons GRRRR......

I don't know when the temperature feature was added but it does come in handy
We have three Diesel stations within 15 minutes of us and it seemed the farther away we got the lower the price was,our last stop Saturday on our shopping Excursion was able to get fuel at $1.96 a gallon.
