I bought my 2002 PSD excursion limited 2 weeks ago and I love it. At first I was concerned about the size since it is my primary vehicle. I'm over it now since I realize how nice it is to drive. The people who owned the truck before me decked it out with the banks stinger plus system, 2 LCD screens, dvd, lift, rims, tires, etc.. The only thing it is missing is an aftermarket stereo. Here is a picture from last weekend towing the boat out to the lake. I chose the excursion diesel since it has a lot of enclosed space and it is absolutely perfect for weekend lake trips. I do have some questions about the lift I have. It is up on blocks in the rear which I've read isn't so good. Should I change to all springs or is that bad for towing? I've read quite a bit about these radius rods as well. Oh and one of my favorite things is how good the banks exhaust/turbo sounds... wow!!!

actiondcpd, welcome to the club! I'm envious of the first pic above. Looks like you have a nice setup.
As long as you feel comfortable towing the boat, then there's no need to change the rear leaf springs. The blocks are fine. If you start having handling problems, you may want to look into the Landyot Radius Rods or a Hellwig rear anti-sway bar (don't know if you've got one already or not?).
Make sure to read the articles for other tips and hints.

actiondcpd Welcome to the Excursion forums as well
Can't tell if you have 4" blocks or 6" blocks but I have 4" blocks on our Excursion and have towed all across the Southwest US with no issues or concerns.
It appears when you're in tow the nose is higher than the rear which I'd consider unsafe but that's my .02 cents, have you looked at airbags to help with the overload?
That is a sweet Excursion also

Welcome to the site
Nice to see some pictures of the X also. The blocks are fine if they are not "stacked" on top of each other. I went to a 5 inch rear spring and will be installing air bags as the lift springs are softer than the factory springs and will let the truck "sqat" badly. I will post a install article when i do it.

Actually I checked it out a little closer yesterday and it looks like the new blocks are on top of the stock 2" blocks? I think I read here that the stock suspension is on 2" blocks?? What should I do... get a single 6" block or airbags?? |

Edge lifts has come out with 4,5,6 inch "ford" type ear blocks. I think they are like 50-55 bucks and safer in my opinion. Make sure your U bolts in the rear are tight [150lbs] and the stacked blocks should be fine as long as you are not agressively off roading.
Stacked blocks are illegal in Maryland.

My best option for the suspension in the rear might be to ditch the factory springs and go for 6" leafs with air bags? I could use the bags when towing so the leafs don't squat and ditch the blocks for good??? What do you guys think? |
