As some of you know, I have a 2002 V10 Limited Ultimate. The wife came home today and the dash shows an open door, and the interior lights won't shut off. I checked all the doors, ok really I opened them and closed them again, and I got the dash light (open door) to shut off, BUT, the dome light and the running board lights won't turn off. According to the manual they will shut themselves off after 30 minutes, battery saver feature.

So here's what I know, it's equipped with a factory alarm and keyless entry. If I try to set the alarm the horn beeps twice, after experimenting with my other Excursion (alright, I've already gotten enough grief cause I have two excursions) it seems the alarm is telling me it's not setting. If I open the door on the other excursion, and set the alarm it does the same thing.

So I think there must be a problem with the door sensor, (think little push button thing on your first car that turned the interior lights off), but I'll be damned if I can find a sensor on the doors, any suggestions?

Hey Scott,
I also wd40'd the heck out of my 99's door "latches"(what ever happened to the good ole push button limit switch days)because my "door ajar"and interior light kept staying on,and 2 days later both door speakers are blown. So off I go to get new speakers installed in the doors and I asked the service tech what happened to 'em?And he shows 'em to me and says"It looks like they got wet from some kinda oil".
Did the speakers blow from the wd40?,I dont know ,but that's all I could think of.
Anyone else with this problem,or as usual,it's just MY luck

Hi

You want to use white lithium grease in an aerosol can with a long plastic nozzle. Insert nozzle into latch mechanism two small blasts is all you need, open and close door a couple of times start at the drivers door, and work around vehicle. As you do each door watch your lights if they go out thats the latch that will need to be lubticated most frequently.

Ford Training instructor showed me that trick, I lube the latches every six months and haven't had any more light issues.

Wait a sec'! You got the dashboard door ajar indicator to go out, but the dome & running board lights are still on? Have you checked the dashboard dimmer switch (next to the headlight switch) to ensure you haven't turned them on from there? If so, don't feel so bad. I've been guilty of that one ... at least a couple times.

I So I take my chances....LOL!! I hope ya got it fixed brother!! I hear ya on the push button thing!! It was much easier I agree!!
