I have a serious vibration in my 05 4x4 Limited . The vibration has been there since day one and has only been intensified since I put the lift kit on. And as usual the dealer blames the lift kit or the tires and says the truck is fine and the shop that did the lift says everything is in spec on the work they did. I am currently on my THIRD set of tires and rims and that has not fixed the problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to check next? I only have 13K miles on it and can not drive it over 65!

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

You eliminated the tires for starts.
According to the book it can come from these points primarily;

Brakes>Uneven disc wear,Uneven disc pad or lining transfer,brake drag

Driveline>U-Joints,worn or damaged driveshaft center bearing support,loose axle pinion flange bolts,excessive axle plinion flange runout,driveshaft out of balance,binding or damaged splines on the driveshaft slip-yoke,driveshaft runout,incorrect lateral and radial tire/wheel runout,driveline angles out of specification,incorrectly seated CV joint in the front wheel hub/s

I'll put my money(what little I have) on that the dealer did not go down that list and all they did was a simple looksee without a proper roadtest

I would put my vote on the driveline as well. It's the only thing that would really get worse as you change with a liftkit. I would say it's not weighted right, or at the wrong angle. Double check the angle of the axle as well.

which dealer... want to be sure and not bother them with my business....

You may have to ask to speak to the regional rep....

if they say lifts are a no-no....
well, that would be like the Jeep dealer telling me the problem with my 5.9 Limited AWD was that I took it off-road !!!

I actually laughed out loud at them and said - would you please say that again so I can record it or put it in writing and we'll see what Jeep says about that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Typically, if you've got an existing vibration and after the installation of a lift kit the vibration has gotten worse, you are looking at a rear driveshaft u-joint or slip yoke problem. These are the most common problems amplified by a lift kit because your rear driveshaft is now operating at a larger angle.

Do you hear any clunking when you come to a start or stop, or when you shift from reverse to drive (or vice versa)? If so, this is a u-joint problem. There are other ways to test, but this is the easiest, most obvious thing that's noticable by just normal everyday driving.

The slip yoke on a rear driveshaft is what allows your driveshaft to extend and compress as your rear suspension moves up and down over bumps and imperfections in the road. If the slip yoke is seized, your rear suspension will not have a smooth upward or downward travel and will result in a vibrating effect as the suspension fights the driveshaft's seized slip yoke to move up and down.

If the dealer is already working against you, then have your 4x4 shop inspect the rear u-joints and the driveshaft slip-yoke for starters. They should be more than capable of doing so and for far cheaper hourly rates than the dealership.

Proof once again that problems should be brought to a dealer's attention before making any modifications. I remember bringing my X in for a rattle in the a/c vent back when it was brand new. The dealer didn't look at and suggested that it was caused by the "aftermarket radio." Gotta love when the customer loses the benefit of the doubt.
