We took Big Red out to Miles city Montana for a Prairie Dog hunt last weekend, 1650 miles round trip. Pulled an open trailer with 2 4-wheelers and gear, camped in the middle of badlands country near Kinsey. Rained heavy the second night, my partner & I threw our bags in the back of the X, snored away in dry comfort.

We planned to head out the next morning but found the road (rutted trail is more apt) a bit greasy. Mud was 8-10 inches deep on the HIGH spots, trail had all but washed away in the low areas. I had to back down the first mild incline we hit as we were sliding sideways, jacknifing the trailer. After straightening out, I dropped her into 4-wheel low & mashed the pedal down! WooHoo, what a ride! 4 rooster tails all the way out (approx 3/4 mile), suspension bottoming, loud banging from the front end, sliding sideways.. At one point I swear I had all four wheels off the ground, blasting over a hump with mud washout on the other side. Big Red performed beautifully. I think all that weight actually helped to keep the momentum going!

When we finally got onto the main road, my trailer & 4 wheelers were unrecognizable. Looked like a giant cow pie! Took over $20 in quarters at the local car wash to clean things up.

BTW, fuel economy (diesel) averaged 16 for the trip; truck's a 4x4, trailer weighed approx 3500 lbs.

JohnBoy;
White grass? Up here in Minnesocold we call that Spring! (you wouldn't want to see Winter)

I have since replaced the blue oval with an original Peterbilt red oval! I get a lot of puzzled looks at the filling station.... heheheheheh.

Eric;
It really was a blast - my Suburban would have never made it out of that mud patch, not enuf weight and grunt . My hunting partner was hanging on for dear life, banged his head on the door glass a couple times, - didn't help either his vocabulary or disposition.

I didn't take any pics 'cuz I forgot to bring the camera! Doh!
