Last night I took the family to the Drive-in (weather was perfect, kids had never had the experience, had to do it). Backed the X into place, popped the back hatch and swung the doors wide ready to enjoy the show. New audio-twist at the Drive-In: no wired speakers to hang inside the vehichle (ya hoo!), but tune your radio to FM 93.7. Wonderful, full stereo sound, taking full advantage of the bass rumble of the Ford premium sound system.
Here is where the problem starts: Back doors open, Key in "Accessory" position (turned backward) to power the radio, and the DOME LIGHTS WILL NOT GO OFF! Not after 10 min, not after 30 min, not ever. (Note: with the key "off", the lights do go off after 20-30 min, but I have no soundtrack and have to rely on the tricked out Honda Accord with requisite 500-watt bass-cannon two spots down to hear the movie). Pulled the "Delay Relay" fuses, to no avail. Owners manual did not identify the dome light fuse positions, so I restrained myself from randomly removing fuses.
Has anyone found an an over-ride for this "feature"? Can I get the dome lights off with doors open and key in "accessory" postion? (if this is in the owners manual and I just missed it, I am going to be very embarrased...) |

Yup! I, too, take the family to the drive-in.
What you need to do is take a screw driver (or something) and close the door latches on both sides of the rear hatch. That will shut the lights off. When your done, hold the handle open then put the latches back in the open postion so you can shut the hatch back again.

Me? I think I would've turned the truck around to where the seats are facing the screen. How does everyone get situated when you're backed in with the X? I know, I know ... I used to back in with a pickup I had, but I had some lawn chairs back there. |

The X gets parked at home for drive-ins. I take the Galaxie instead.

For those of us without the perfect drive in convertible !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can answer the front or rear parking....
If parked forward the tall Captain chairs in front don't lend themselves to good viewing angles from the back seats I'll bet !
and turning the third seat around or flattening out the second and third seats with throw pillows must be a hoot for the kiddos !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I posted a similar question to this list several months ago. In my case, I WANT a switch to turn off all the interior lights. Strange thing is that ALL the other Ford SUV's can shut off their interior lights. They also have "almost" the same light switch except in their case the roller switch for dimming the dash lights will turn off the interior lights if rolled all the way down. The one in the EX won't do that. I called Ford to find out why. Now get this. Ford decided that people who own Ex's don't need to turn off the lights. They [we] don't use our trucks in that fashion. SAY WHAT????????? They went and made another switch just for the EX so we cannot turn off the lights. Sorry, it's not one of Ford's better ideas. I bought a switch made for the Expedition only I do not have any idea what plugs into the extra pin.

I wired in 4 toggle switches to shut down the door-ajar circuits for when they give me trouble. They hadn't bothered me in months ... until today ... damp & rainy. In any case, I can shut off each door-ajar circuit ... one switch for each front door, one for the pair of rear doors, and one for the liftgate. |
