Hi all,
Got the pusher fan in on Monday from Summit. Hopefully, I will have time to install it before heading out on vacation. Some other things I have done so far is, remove the grille and cleaned the coils on the condensor with coil clean. That alone seemed to make a difference in the air temp. The amount of crap, crud, and corruption I got out of those fins really surprised me . I also, took the plunge and bought the a/c control valve from Bob Riley at Dieselsite. I wasn't too sure about how well it would work. Upon removing it from the box, it looked the same as the one already on. However, when I removed mine I noticed there where differing part numbers, plus the vaccum line on Bob's is larger. Installation took about thirty minutes, and it was well worth it. CAUTION: IF YOU PLAN TO DO THIS, MAKE SURE YOU HAVEN'T DRIVEN YOUR RIDE AND THE ENGINE IS COOL!! YOU WILL LOSE SOME COOLANT DURING THE REMOVAL OF THE STOCK VALVE AND MAY BURN YOURSELF . I noticed a difference in air temps coming out of the vents cruising down the highway after completing the project . I am hoping the pusher fan will drop the temps even further for the stop-and-go traffic. One question concerning the fan. I wasn't sure about the wiring, although the directions provided seem pretty thorough. I was thinking of installing just an on/off switch to use it whenever necessary. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for reading

It's common to install an on/off switch for an electric fan. They are pretty loud, but I'm not sure that you'd hear it over the diesel idling. I had an electric pusher and puller fan on my Bronco. I would always run the puller and would flip the switch for the pusher whenever the Bronco would start heating up. No need to run it if the engine temp and a/c temps are fine at driving speeds.

Sure you can install it with a switch instead of using the compressor circuit as a trigger, just order Flex-a-lite Part# 31148-Aux. Illum. Switch so you can power it up or down anytime
Whenever we work on the coolant system we'll drain a few gallons to get the level below where we're working so no coolant is lost

CHP, can you show/tell us how to hook up one of these pusher fans to the compressor circuit? Where do we splice into this and which wire? |

Sorry for not getting back to you Robert,I've had too much in the fire lately
I'll need to know what fan you have along with the included wiring,I'll do a photo essay on the install.

Thanks Bill, I understand.
I was going to purchase the same Fan you used. The FLX-116. I see a 30 amp relay kit also on Summit that has 4 terminals on it. Not sure what a relay really does, but assume it goes between the fan and power source. Perhaps it regulates the amperage/voltage or something. I would think that I would want the power source to be the AC on button and not the compressor once I thought through it more. That way it would not cycle on/off with the compressor especially when idling. Not sure how I would locate the AC on wire.
How far off am I in my current thinking? |

If I recall one circuit on the compressor triggers the fan on(full time) when the AC is turned on,the opposite circuit cycles the fan with the compressor(which is my setup)
I have the Hot from the relay going to the main Hot battery terminal, ground to ground, trigger(switch circuit) to compressor harness and power from the relay to the fan.I'll double check the wiring arrangement to be 100% positive.
