I broke 2 Craftsman sockets trying to loosen the bolts to remove the backing plate so I can get the rotors off. What am I doing wrong? |

The brake caliper anchor plate bolts have about 166 ib-ft torque on each bolt.
Have you tried an impact tool with an impact socket as they tend to be much stronger than the basic craftsman sockets.

Thanks for the reply. Can I apply heat if I need to? |

Yep. If you've never removed them before, they're probably somewhat seized on there. Heat will certainly help and won't hurt anything (they heat up all the time when you're driving and using the brakes).
I've had good luck with my Craftsmen sockets on those bolts. You really have to squeeze the cheeks to remove those bolts.
