Peel and seal is the way to go don't bother spending the money on the car audio stuff. Yes it works but the fort-i-flash or whatever brand stick on flashing you choose will do the trick. I've done many cars/trucks in both and this is something you can save your money on.

If the listening level is too loud, please inform the driver, so he can promptly pull over, and let you out.

Thanks for the tip BIll J....This stuff just seemed to be too much like the high dollar sound proofing stuff to not be worth a try.

I can get a roll of the flashing membrane for very cheap, and have plenty to do the X.

Then I can hold my own private Karioke session with my Tammy Wynette CD while cruising down the Texas freeways at 80.

I'm thinking about sound deadening my X as well and was told that eDead v1 SE is a good product and is much cheaper than Dynamat. Being in Texas the summers are brutal on vehicles and have been told that the home waterproofing peel n stick will fall off over time & also has a asphalt smell to it when it starts bakeing.

About how many sq. ft. does it take to do the truck floor from front to back & 4 doors?

Now I'm just sittin' here wondering why I'm so dumb that I couldn't figger that out myself! I must be gullible, cuz I just believed what I read about acoustic mass & sound deadening materials. I was told they are different from waterproofing material. Anyway, I thought I'd go to the source - Cascade Audio. Their reply is shown below. I dont want to get into no pi--in' contest here, but I know for a fact that it's a lotta work to pull your whole dam interior, lay & tape this stuff in & then reinstall everything. Seems like a shame to use a substandard material after all that, but then my way is not the only way. FWIW...

Hello Mr. Baratto –

Thank you for your e-mail.

I hear these types of claims from time to time.

There are many people who think we are marking up garbage product and calling it car specific.

The fact of the matter is that you can put anything you want in your vehicle and have some sound deadening.

The issue comes with time, the elements, adhesion and weight.

Every one of our products has been tested in vehicles of all types for the last 12 years. Our products will not deteriorate over time, are waterproof & UV resistant.

The butylene referred to in the forum comments you copied me is an ingredient in one of our damping materials. The butylene is not what performs the damping. It is the aluminum. The butylene is simply an adhesive layer and a cushioning layer. If butylene is installed alone, you will not get any vibration damping, just a little mass loading.

Butylene will also follow gravity. If installed on the floor, it is easy to mush it around by your feet in the footwells.

In the door, butylene alone will sag down and eventually end up all the way at the bottom of the door cavity. This will eventually plug your “weep holes” and turn your door into an aquarium.

The butylene in our V-Max is infused with ceramic microspheres which give the butylene structure and it does not sag.

I could go on for hours on how our products are better than home construction products, but I think I have made my point.

Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Okay...let's see..with a big roll of Bituthane waterproofing membrane in hand...

I can get some tin foil at the grocery store....and with some yaller spray glue I can have some home made DYNOMITE DYNAMAT.

If I can only figure out how to get it "infused with ceramic microspheres" ( maybe hit a few garage sales for a wheelbarrow full o' bric-a-brac and get after it with a slege hammer, and sprinkle over the floorboard? )

seriously...maybe the waterproofing membrane would get a bit soft and overly pliable in these 100+ degree TX summers...(but I can be sure no water will be splashing up and getting into my carpet in the rain times)

oh well,,,just a thought

thanks for the info fellers..

Too many big words!

I agree, pulling the interior is a PITA. Might as well do it right. Thankfully, I'm not that motivated to do this project now, so I'll just keep the stereo turned up.
