So here ya go!

In my last Ex, I developed a problem in which driver side seat would not move back all of the time. It got to the point where it would not move back at all. It was fine for my 5'4" wife to drive but not for this 6'2" 260# cat. Finally, I took it to the dealer. They told me the motor was going out and that it would be $500+ to get it replaced . I thought "Yeah, right.... that explains why it works IN THE OTHER 3 DIRECTIONS!". Needless to say, I went and picked the truck up from the stealership without having them do any work on it.

So I decided to take the switch mechanism apart. Sure enough! The contacts for the back direction were corroded! All other directions were fine - which I thought to be strange. Anyway, I took the file on my Swiss Army knife to the contacts and scraped off the corrosion. VOILA!!! It worked again!!

Needless to say, IF I have a stealership do any work for me, it ain't gonna be THAT one!!!

If it's working in all of the other directions, then that's probably what it is.

To remove the switch-plate in the armrest, simply pry up the forward end with a wide-blade tool ... such as a screwdriver. It pops right out, and you can then disconnect the wiring harness & proceed to examine the mirror switch. I don't recall if it's a fully enclosed component or not.

BTW, I believe there should be 3 motors under the seat ... one for each line of motion. I can't swear to that statement because I haven't looked under my seat (careful how you interpret that), but it's been that way on all the other power-seats I've worked on.

That's just it.. I looked (so I thought) and only saw one motor. Now, you're going to make me look again!

Still, the point is that it was not the motor at all.

LANDYOT beat me to it, but I was going to suggest the following common tools for disassembly and reassembly!
